BLOODY DOCTORS!

Fair does, doctors are bloody patronising.

They treat old people like animals and talk to everyone as if they were 3 yrs old.

When I was in hospital, the doc asked me what I'd done & I told him I took an over dose.
He asked me "why would you want to go and do that?" so I told him "why do you fuckin think I did that? because it was fun?!"

Anyone else had experiences like that?

OPEN YOUR MIND...
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

When I was pregnant first time I used to get this pain, on the right, just in a bit from my hip bone, it was worse when I sneezed.

On one of my routine maternity visits, I mentioned it to the doc, hoping for a reason.

He said "well don't sneeze then"!!!

Then another time, he was attacking a verruca I had, with liquid nitrogen. I said to him "I think that's enough now" because it was EXTREMELY painful. He said "no it's not, you're still smiling" !!!!!!!!

My GP is great. She's only just qualified, so maybe she's not as burnt out and set in her ways as others. Saying all doctors are crap is a bit like saying all men are bastards or all women are bitches - too much of a generalisation! I always give em the benefit of the doubt to begin with.

I agree Reded, I like my doctor too! She's really nice. The ones I've met at the hospital though have generally been really snooty, especially the consultants. One consultant was so off with me and my mum he hardly even talked to me and answered my questions like I was stupid. Why are they like that?!

My doctor is awful I used to have a female one who was really understanding abou things when I went to her, she talked to me when I went to her abou tgoing on the pill and explained everything to me, she referred me to people when I was having problems with family and stuff. THe one I've got now though starts writing the pescription out before you've finished telling him whats wrong with you, it seems like he just wants to get you in and out in a recordbreaking time or something. I also was told off a doctor on a home visit that hte antibiotics he had given me were the cheapest ones you could get of that kind and didnt reall ydo much for you.

I don't know, I wasn't there (no, really, I wasn't), but he might have been trying to work out wether to asses you for depression, or to give you advice on what to do if you miss a dose.
He might have been trying to work out your intentions when taking the overdose, was it intentional, did you mean to be succesful.
Or he might have been leading up to "what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?":eyeroll:

Yeah my local GP's r all real good... it's only when u get to Hospitals that the quality goes down.

I'm not racist but I got a real problem with foreign doctors who have qualified in other countries. The amount of mis-dianosis me n friends have had from them is getting stupid.. They cant speak English well enuff to tell u what to do.. I cant understand half of them. There should b some sorta qualification including a speaking and writing test(as my GP couldnt read a word of what 1 doctor wrote on my notes) b4 they r allowed to practise in the country.

Daze, i know what you mean actually about foreign docs. im not racist either, and although we're bound to offend some people.... you're right. whe ni was in year 7 i had an eye examination in school, and got referred to the opticians. the indian doctor, while im sure he was very qualified, made me very anxious and upset when he failed to explain to me it wasnt ctually a serious problem, and told me explicitly i MUST wear glasses or i would develop a squint. i got so upset we had to leave, and i got a second opinion. ive seen 3 opticians now, they all say i have a mildly short sighted right eye, and my left eye makes up for it, and so i dont need glasses unless i have probs driving, or with judging depth, and i definitely wont get a squint! althogh i guess he could just be a bad optician, not necessarily due to his race. although he didnt treat me particularly sensitively and his way of speaking english left me and my mum in confusion. so i can see wher you're coming from.

It's true some doctors from minority ethnic backgrounds (or abroad, but there aren't that many from abroad I think) don't speak English that well, but I think most of the problems actually arise from there being a lot of stressed and occasionally bad doctors out there. When their English is 'normal' you blame it on their ability (or stress etc). When their English isn't 'normal' it seems more obvious to blame it on their language and speech (I don't know why people use the word 'race' for this) because that's the most obvious difference is. As for the handwriting thing, some people just have bad handwriting - I can't read my mum's for example.

I've been treated twice in France by doctors who didn't speak very good English (about as good as my French, so can ask for food and bus ticket etc. but not much more <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"> ) and neither of them misdiagnosed me.

Funny you should mention French JB, I was just thinking about the cosultant who put the canula in the back of my hand when I was in labour. It was like a comedy sketch, I'd almost completely forgotten.

The consultant was African in skin colour, but his accent was French & I couldn't understand a word he said. It was so funny now I look back. I used to wait until he'd left the room & ask the midwife what he had said. Trouble was, this is just so crazy you're never going to believe me, one of the midwifes had a cleft palate & I could hardly understand what she was saying either!!!!!!!! You had to be there.

I've just re-read my post after reading the latest ones.. i definitely didnt mean to imply that people of different races had lower ability than white people!! ive just realised it may have come across like that. i saw that tv prog the other day on ch 4 about white people supposedly having a higher IQ than blacks, and i thought that was a view that was only around in america many decades ago! but they went on to say how the test itself was probably biased towards caucasians and if it tested for different types of ability then the scores would be the same and not higher for any particular race.

i guess the guy i saw just wasnt a very good optician, and the language problem didnt help reassure me and get the true point across calmly!

I think it is actually a very high percentage of doctors rnt trained in this country. Around 15% I think... will check 2morrow with my mum...
A lot of countries dont train their doctors to the same standard, simply bcos it's not need, especially in some asian and african countries, where they r trained to deal with more common ilneses from that place and the serious ones u can catch here e.g. Heart Disease r not concentrated on cos they rnt so common.
The largest number of recruitments is now coming from Australia and New Zealand now as their is a recruitment drive on down there.

But saying that... the queus at hospitals r soo long n e way, without the 15% they'd b longer. I just wish stupid ppl would understand what doctors r for and not go everytime they get a cold, which my mum says is about 50% of diagnosis in her surgery n then they come back for medicien??? idiots

Some doctors are sooo rude. I went to the FPC a while back and told the doc there that i was having trouble remembering my pills and was there any chance id be able to get an implant cos im terrified of needles.
She screwed at me 4 being bad @ remembering pills telling me to buck my ideas up ect. She was just generally really rude and dismissive.
Dont u think this kind of attitude is counter productive tho? That it'll make people not want to go to their doc and ask 4 help and advice??
