bullimia + periods

does anyone know if bullimia can stop periods? because ive been making myself sick for 2 months (i havent now for 3 days though), and my period is really late.does anyone know anything about this that can help?

yes i think bulimia can affect periods like this. the fact youre putting your body through such a trauma and not letting it absorb the nutrients it needs, affects them and can make them stop. its the same if youre worrying abotu stuff or really stressed or just not eating properly.

are you seeing anyone, like a doctor or counsellor, about your bulimia??

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

Yea as far as I no bulimia can affect your periods. Anorexia certainly can and its due to the weight loss and lack of vitamins etc as gfm says. Im pretty sure it would b the same for bulimia.
I think u should go to see your docter too as its not a good thing to be doing to yourslef. Its good that u realise what u r doing though. Making yourself sick can also cause other problems like rotting teeth due to the stomach acid and also burst blood veesles from the reaching when u r sick. If it get real bad u can have liver failure and loads of other stuff so its not a good thing to be doing.

thanks for all of your advice, it is good to know there are people out there! im not seeing my doctor, but a couple of my friends know and they help me. although one of them is getting quite upset seeing me do it to myself(not literally 'seeing').ive not done it for a few days now but i usually stop for a couple of days then start again.it usually starts when i feel down about myself. when do you think my periods will 'return'?

hey clara u cud b really hurting urself lik ethis, ur periods stoppin is a sign that things aren't right with ur body.

u shud go to see ur doctor or an eating disorders clinic. There is one in my town run by MIND and it is really good, they have group therapy sessions and conucelling. Look up MIND or mental health in the phone book. U don't really sound like u want to beat it, but it is obviously doing u serious harm.

Ur periods will probably only start again when u start eating normally.
