One of them used to be the Bakers Oven but they've all closed. There's only one of them on the Greggs site :(

No way. There are 5, yes 5 down Sheffield high street, including a new one that has opened directly opposite an existing one so that people no longer have to cross the street.

Wow. Did you used to go into shops and order 'Twa plen braidies n n ingin in n ar' or whatever it is? 'Two plain bridies and an onion one as well' for anyone who hasn't spent too much time north of the border.

Leeds does have two McDonalds in the same street as well.

Lady Jane Grey, queen of England for all of 9 days  come on! Who can beat that! :p

I just went on the wikipedia article (for groby) and edited it because they didn't know what the name stood for, whereas I studied it in history and it's viking for pit! (referring to the slate quarry)

I went to uni in Dundee, but nothing compares to the proper Aberdonian accent.

"Aye fit like i day min?"
"Nae bad min, jist chavin awa fine!"
"Ats arite en, fine seein ye, nae muckle on the'day!"

To this day I still use my Sunday voice except when I'm back home, where speaking anything approaching English will get me laughed at.

I know the feeling. Whenever I ring any of my "pals" from Dundee, I automatically slip into some strange Scottish accent/dialect, otherwise I get accused of being "posh" ad constantly asked to repeat myself for the entertainment of all around. 'Tis pure Baltic oot t'day mon.

    Stockport is famous for...

    - Hat-making... does anyone know Christy’s hats? It was the last working hat factory in the UK.

    - Stockport County - and now Sale Sharks!

    - The Viaduct, Western Europe's biggest brick-built structure. It was built with 11 million bricks.

    - Strawberry Recording Studios, Joy Division recoded here amongst others.

    - Fred Perry was born in Stockport.

    - Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash (who went to my school!) are from Stockport. Mrs Merton's chat show was filmed in Stockport and the audience was full of pensioners from around here. The Royle Family and Early Doors are both fictionally based in Stockport and the lines refer to loads of areas and landmarks in Stockport.

    - Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud fame grew up in Stockport.

    - David Dickinson was born here, he used to play out as a kid with my mate's granny!

    - Other people from Stockport include Judith Chalmers, Yvette Fielding, Tess Daly, Judy Finnegan, Mr Scruff, Bruce Jones aka Les Battersby, Sally Lindsey aka Shelly Unwin and Bill Tarmey aka Jack Duckworth.

That's all I can think of right now!

Theres three greggs in durham, and three peters bakers (like greggs) in durham as well.

As kermit and a few other northerners on here will tell you, durham is one of the smallest cities in the world.

yup - robin and his tree come in a package. It's even more famous cause it's so big, and there's a theory that it's actually several trees that have moulded together. It's got a hollow bit and thats where they hid the money and stuff.

eta: ye olde trip to jerusalem is just round the corner from the statue aswell - supposed to be the oldest pub in england
