Violette and FireyFirenze did it last year, they had a ball from what I can gather. Give them a PM, I'm sure they'll share it with you!

I did it. Go with BUNAC instead of Camp America. You get more money. Anything else, PM me. It's an awesome experience. I'd definitely recommend it!

From what I've heard all the organisations have their pros & cons and imo whether your experience is good or not will probably depend more on which camp you end up at rather than which organisation facilitated the journey. That said, if you get a place with CA - then probably not worth applying to the others. You might find this thread interesting: http://vbulletin.thesite.org/showthread.php?t=108411

You did? What kind of stuff? As far as I was concerned, BUNAC presented a more realistic picture of camp life, while with CA it was like rose-tinted glasses. At the end of the day though, Helen's right. It doesn't make a difference to your camp experience who you end up going through, cause it's the camp that makes the experience at the end of the day. I was really happy with my experience, so much so I went back again the next year. Good luck with your application, and I hope you get a placement!

    shit yeah

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Worked at a camp in Maine fer two consecutive summers.
Some of the best (albeit tiresome) times of my life.

Are you thinkin bout using Camp America or Camp USA?
Cas the latter company sometimes pays more.
    There's another organization that's a good option...
They actually shell out for the roundrip flight to your camp.
I'll have a dig and get back to you on that one...
    if you so desire.

I'd be interested in that to.

Tho Bunac only offer things for students.

Also I aint a very sporty kinda guy so not sure about being a camp counsellor, its all activites and sports.

I know there is an alternative one where you can do office work I think, but wouldnt wanna be out in a new country, in the sun aand sitting innsdie doing paperwork! lol

They're not all sports camps. At my camp sometimes I had to teach sports, when we'd play rounders or kick-ball, and sometimes country dancing
:) (don't say anything!) :o but mostly it was things like arts and crafts, swimming (not really swimming, just messing around in the pool), riding and animal stuff.

When you fill in the application form you say what your skills are in and they generally find you a camp that suits your skills. There are camps which specialise in things eg music, drama, sports etc.

Are some of the camps you can go to girl scout camps? I remember way back when when I would go to girl scout camp almost every counsler was foreign and from a different country. So reading this I'm all curious if thats what they did.

I planned a gap year in which i went to ecudor from sept-feb with "GAP" , spent feb-may living with my auntie in rome, and then the summer on camp america, but then decided I did actually want to go to music college and you cant defer if you go to music college :(

I will definately go again one day - but I have heard before BUNAC pay a lot more which will be good as I will be a student when I do it. And both organise it really well.

Did you make money on it?
Did you then spend it all when you went travelling so ended up paying more money then you made or did it equal out?

I live in the states and the camp I went to for few years usually had at least ten foreign counselors and about eight foreign workers like cooks, nurses, and horse staff. I believe the YMCA's camp has foreign staff, but I'm not sure.
