as i posted yesterday i have torn ligaments and have been out of action for a while...
however before that i was doing well...wasnt actually losing a lot of weight but i was toning up a lot and eating really healthy in the hope that soon the pounds would start to drop off.
so i havent done any exercise in about a month
a)i havent had time
b)for the past two weeks ive been immobile...
so now that my knee is feeling better (a little) and im finished school i went for a swim this morning...only did 50 lengths as i didnt want to overdo my knee....when i got home i weighed myself absolutely shocked to find that i have put 7 pounds in the past 3 weeks.
ok so 7 pounds isnt a lot really but its half a stone...its a lot to me!
grrr...i have been trying to lose weight since about january and it has been so hard...a lot has happened to make me comfort eat which i know is bad...
but god damn it dieting is so hard!!!!
and then to help my sister comes home from college with her skinny-ness in my face...GO AWAY!!! she has lost like 2 stone is 6 months...

I know how you feel, although in my case it has been losing weight due to not exercising. When I tore just one of my calf muscles I would swim, do upper boddy exercises, and use a rowing machine nice and slowly with my legs still in an attemp to keep fit. Unfortuantly that didn't work well, as in one half year period I managed to partially tear calf muscles 5 times!! And I still have to me carefull of damaging them now... Don't over train peeps <IMG SRC="eek.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">. Anyway, back on topic, just do exercises avoiding the area, like swimming using one leg, upper body weights and upper body rowing.

don't worry, you will take it off again, but you need to take it slow - think yourself lucky, i tore ligaments in the back of my knee three years ago, and i can't swim, run or ski (well) anymore, because i've got a permanent weakness - it bloody hurts when i try to!

i TOTALLY understand. i made a post similar to this in the sport and fitness forum. i have broken my leg and i was trying so hard before it happened to improve my health and now i am panicking all my effort is wasted. dont let the weight get you down or you'll get into a vicious cycle where you get upset, eat more, gain, get more upset etc etc. keep at it.

alastair? how could you have lost weight from not exercising as much? isnt that a contradiction of terms? i thought any form of exercise made you lose weight?
