too much paracetemol

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Ok, (this is a bit hard to talk about, but here it goes)
Over a year ago, I took an overdose on paracetemol. And I took about 70 tablets. I was really really sick, but then I got better, so no one found out about it, and I didn't have to go to hospital. I'm really worried that I might have damaged my liver or something. Do you think I should go and see a doctor or something, even though it's a year after it happened??
Sorry if this's a repeat of something else, but I did a search and didn't find anything.

OK, so if you had gone to your doctor you would've been put on a drip of parvolax (I think that's the name) to reverse the effects.
Being sick will have gotten rid of most of the stuff but there is a chance that some could've been absorbed into your blood.

How long after taking them did you start being sick?

Well, it's probably worth seeing your doc.
They also may refer you to a counsellor if you want to have someone to talk to.

I probably shouldn't say this, but all the hassle you go through trying to top yourself with paracetemol is mostly wasted. Chances are you ain't gonna die and you'll feel like utter shit for days.
It's dangerous stuff in incresed doses as you well know - go put your mind at rest.

One of those things that will never happen again. I'll make sure of it. Thanx for your help.

It's a terrible way to go because it takes up to 24 hours for the effects to truly kick in, by which time the person will usually regret taking them in the first place. Then they go downhill rapidly and suffer a terrible death. Nasty.

Anyhow, get yourself down to the doctors and explain what you did jelly baby. The liver is unique in its ability to regenerate after it's damaged, so hopefully you'll have got away with it.

    Don't do it again <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

I was told that, I had to laugh.
But yes, it affects different people in different ways.

I am glad you are ok! But you should definitely go to the doctor and see about any damage.

I took 13 once and fell asleep in my art class, but that's another story.

    Take care.

it may well have damaged your liver. thats the problem with overdosing on paracetamol. it doesnt usually kill you there and then, just ruins your liver which you then have to live with. youd be well advised to stay away from paracetamol even in normal doses in future in case it does any more damage. use aspirin or ibuprofen if you need a pain killer
