Sweating

Anybody know how to get around excessive sweating, mainly under the arms. Is it to do with diet/drinking/smoking?

Anyway out of it apart from Anti Perspirants?

Thanks

Hallo there, and welcome to the site!

Excessive sweating has nothing to do with diet or any other bad habits. I know exactly how you feel, but a remedy is easy to find. Normal anti-perspirants don't deal with the problem properly, but you can buy a stronger one over the counter in Boots. I can't remember just at this moment in time what it's called (damn, damn... ), but if you ask the pharmacist they'll be able to give it to you.

Basically, they contain larger amounts of aluminium, which blocks the pores under the arms and releases sweat elsewhere in not-so-noticeable places. It's a godsend. Believe me. You apply it at night, making sure you wash it off in the morning. After a fortnight, you won't need to use deoderant full-stop!

One side-effect, however - I found them really irritable. My underarms REALLY itched, and it's distracting if you're trying to sleep....

You can go to your G.P. about this, and they'll be able to prescribe a deoderant which will help, but i think they're the same ones you can buy over the counter without a prescription.

Hope this helps.

my bro had this problem, he went to the doctors and they gave him a special deodorant to use.

If the deodorant over the counter at boots doesn't suit you then pay a visit to the doctor, they will be happy to help.

HI - I know exactly how you feel. I have the same problem, not only in my armpits, but basically all over my body - it's horrible!

The condition is called Hyperhydrosis and the roll-on you can get at Boots is called Dri-Clor. It really helps - but yeah it can sting when u put it on but boy is it worth it!Dri-Clor

Some info, I think I get it down to being nervous, I shall look in boots for the Dri Clor. thanks

What is excessive sweating?
Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, can affect the entire body, but usually occurs in the palms, soles, armpits, and/or groin area. Excessive sweating is normal when a person is anxious or has a fever. However, when the condition is chronic, it may signal thyroid problems, low blood sugar levels, or a nervous system disorder.

What are the symptoms of excessive sweating?
Areas that produce excessive sweat usually appear pink or white, but in sever cases, may appear cracked, scaly, and soft (especially on the feet). Other symptoms may include a bad odor caused by bacteria and yeast in the wet skin.

Treatment for excessive sweating:
Specific treatment for excessive sweating will be determined by your physician, based on:

your overall health, age, and medical history
severity of the condition
your tolerance of specific medications, procedures, or therapies
your opinion or preference
Treatment may include one, or several, of the following:

methenamine solution applications to the area (to control heavy sweating)
night time applications of aluminum chloride solution to the area (to control heavy sweating)
surgical removal of the sweat glands
tap water iontophoresis (applying a weak electrical current to the area)
psychological counseling and/or medication to reduce anxiety

i had the same problem and it used to reallly annoy me especially if it shows through your clothes.
i got prescribed some stuff called Anhydrol Forte which i sounds basically the same as the other one mentionned..i.e.you put it on at night and wash it off in the morning. it does work - at the beginnning i think you use it every other night then only about twice a week. but, as sconebeast said, i've found that it is really itchy expecially if you are trying to sleep but you get used to it.
oh yeah but it bleaches clothes so don't get it near them! ive ruinned a couple of t-shirts in the process..
good luck in getting it sorted x

Hi again

Yeah Anhydrol Forte is the same kinda thing as Dri-Clor. They should work after a few attempts but you're right they can sting. You put it on at night because that's when you sweat less, but if you do happen to sweat a bit and you've put this stuff on, that's when it gets painful.

If just rolling the solution doesn't work, try rolling it on and wrapping the area in cling film! Yes, sounds stupid I know but it definitely works. Of course, that's not possible on all areas of the body, but if your feet sweat loads, roll on some dri-clor and wrap your feet in cling film.

No I'm not mad - it works (and I didn't fidn that out because I have a dodgy cling-film fetish - I found out about it on the net.)

I hope that helps

Hi, I cannot find any Dri-Clor from Boots or the Chemists. Do you think there is a website to order from? Also, is it expensive?

Thanks

Both are available at Boots although you have to ask for them as they are behind the counter. You won't find them on the shelves!

You can also get it on perscription from the doctor.

I get mine from a great website called www.Pharmacy2u.co.uk although you'll need a credit card to buy things from there (I don't know how old you are)

I think it's about 6 quid for a roll on which lasts ages. I hope you manage to get some!

Hi,

I used some Dri-Clor on Friday night and it worked excellent, after I was stinging all night. Being drunk helped me through the pain barrier.

Thanks for all your great advice and my wife is very pleased.
