Too Much Sleep!

Can anyone help me?

Due to the nature of my part-time job, a cinema projectionist i do not finish work until quite late in the night i.e. 10pm, 12pm etc and therefore i do not get to bed until about 1am. However I normally always sleep through utnil at the earliest 12.30pm and therefore on average i am getting about 12 hours of sleep at the minimum.

Shurley i do not need this amount of sleep and someone of my age should get about 7 hours sleep. However this seems to be an endless cycle to which has somewhat starting to ruin my life and is really starting to get to me. Any ideas would be mcuh appreciated...

Heh, I love my 12 hours.

Um, no, you don't need that much sleep.
You can train your body to need less, but that's if you are already in a regular pattern.

Basically, unless there is a medical reason, you just need to get up earlier.
Getting too much sleep can make you feel as tired as not enough.

Start setting your alarm half an hour early for a week or so, and gradually increase this until you're getting about 8 hours kip.

Getting into a routine can help (going to bed and getting up at the same time every day) but is not always practical.

If you're profile is right and you're still at sixth form, how come you don't get into trouble for being late?!

Anyway, why don't you try setting your alarm a little bit earlier each day until you're gtting about 8 hours sleep.

It doesn't matter what time you go to bed or get up as long as you can establish a routine. However, if you say it is problem, then you're obviously unhappy with the situation.

Usually when you have too much sleep it leaves you feeling groggy, and can often give you a headache. If you're not suffering as a result of 12 hours sleep then maybe you are just a person who needs this much sleep. There is no 'perfect' amount of sleep as we all need different amounts.

Try not to worry too much, but if it is getting you down why don't you try the alarm clock thing, it worked for me, because I was getting up at like, 11am every day and missing lectures, now I'm ok!

    Actually I understand you.
I dont know whats wronng, but this past week I have been going to bed at a normal time, but still been so tired for the rest of the day, which has made me go to take a midday nap when I got home. Even though I have taken that nap, I still manage to sleep at night, and the cycle has continued for about a week. Tired at school, and slept most of the day!

I really feel like a pensioneer, and dont know how to stop it!
It has just come suddenly, before that I could easily manage with 7/8 hours of sleep, but now I cant get enough. Its weird. And as I am going on holiday, I am afraid that I will get used to this.

an ideal amount of sleep is about 6-7 hours. You should always try and get to bed at the same time, and set your alarm for the same time every morning. Anymore than 8 hours and you still feel tired, and scientists think it maybe harmful to the body, as you suffer from dehydration, hunger e.t.c.

Well I guess that you have to sleep for more than 7 hours a day for ages, before you increase you chances of getting a heart attack.
