Wanna be a bit more explicit?

Does the pain follow exercise?
Are you normally pain free?
Family history?
Are you overweight?
How old are you?

etc.

If you're worried, see your GP.

Proper agony pain, or just a niggling annoying pain?

At 18 you shouldn't be developing angina!

Is it linked to your breathing e.g. worse when you breathe in?

Does is follow meal times?
Is it related to body position? e.g. worse when you lie down
Where exactly is the pain?

oh yeah and when i have it (it comes and goes) and i breathe in it hurts more, but it doesn't hurt if i havent got it and i breathe in deeply.

does that make sense? lol

it does hurt more after meal times but it can also happen when i haven't been eating for a while.

body position isnt related i don't think.

the pain is kind of to the right of my left boob. in my chest but slightly to the left, i think thats where my heart is?

Yes, the heart is there, but you see it's important not to position the site of the symptoms to an organ just because you think it should be there. Do you see? - it can be misleading.

Anyhow, I have absolutely no idea what it could be I'm afraid (I have ideas but only guesses), so do the decent thing and book an appt with your GP if you are truly worried.

And let me know how you get on....

yeah i see what you mean about the organ thing, but its hard not to, theres not a lot else there really apart from my boob. maybe it is a muscle thing.

Hey, Emma, if youre worried you really should go to the doctors. We cant help you so much as (I dont think) any of us are trained doctors...go down there. They wont laugh at you

just to reassure you, i have what sounds like an almost identical problem. just like you, it is sharp stabbing pains in the left chest, and it hurts if you breath in deeply and not if you breath in shallowly. my 'attacks' are fairly rare (once every 4/5 months?) and usually only last for a few minutes. they tend to occur when i am lying down, tho it has happened once when i was standing up. i find that if i lie there quietly it usually goes in a few minutes. i also think it feels a bit like cramp, but only in the muscles around the heart. i'm not too woried,as it is so rare . . . .

I should try not to worry about it, I had the exact same thing for three years. The best thing to do is go see a doctor.I had to have blood tests and an ECG , I was worried there was something wrong with my heart but in the end they said it was stress and anxiety, and they gave me advice on how to deal with it and I'm okay now.So go see a doctor and talk things through, good luck.

I have the same problems sometimes, and it is pulling small muscles or sommit else, more serious maybe. Go to the doctors, is the best thing to do!

I dont know what your pain is caused by, but I have had a similar for the past two years, I have been in hospital for two weeks and been treated for a clot on my lung I have had heart checks lung, you name it and they still dont know what is wrong. I get pains in my chest pins and needles down my arm neck and chin and leg and find it painful to breath, my longest attack has been 1hour and sometimes it is only seconds, but it hurts like hell and I cant move when in pain.
I get hot and then clammy, you do need to see a doctor but they may not know the cause, I am still waiting for tests and have to live with the pain when I get it, sometimes I have months with no pain and other times nothing but pain. I hope you get sorted but sometimes it is'nt that simple.
they have suggested mine may be muscular so dont worry but do get checked out ok
Good luck

I had this when I was your age. It was a chest pain that came and went in my intercostal muscles (the muscles between the ribs that help control breathing).

I went to the doctor about it and he told me it was quite normal. It used to come on quite randomly and hurt when I took deep breaths, but it passed after a few seconds. I think it's one of those growth things.

I still get them from time to time now (im 20), but they are becoming less frequent and less painful.
