Muahaha at last... a subject I can answer

What do you need to do most?
Tone up your stomach or just lose flab on the stomach?

If you want to lose flab you are going to have to do generall fitness work, like aerobics *yuk* or long distance running *yay*. Wheras if you just want to tone (ie no flab already) then spot work like situps are good. Another good one tho is where you hang of a chinup bar and bring you knees up to your waist and down again etc.

Another one if you want REALLY good abs is to sit on the floor with your knees bent and you feet on the floor. Now lean back keeping your back just of the floor and and your feet on the floor. (A partner to hold your feet down or a bar to hook your feet under may help) and the stretch your arms out behind you over your head. Hold this position for ten seconds then rest for ten seconds - you have just done one set. Do ten sets of this, if your stomach muscles are feeling pumped then you are doing it right. The difficulty can be modified by where you put your arms, and if you are finding it too easy then you can use something like a medicine ball in your hands to make it even harder.

If you need any more let me know

Oh yeh, I'm working on a site about training for sports related fitness, let me know if anyone out there wants to contribute articles or content

Well it's not really that hard to keep fit... One of the best ways to lose flab is just to do lots of sport where you run around. That way you don't even realise how much work you are doing. Or go for a swim regularly that will help.

Its easier said than done, when your flabby exercise is harder coz you dont wanna be seen in a swimming cossie or at the gym, which makes it harder to lose the flab so you can exercise. Its a nasty on going circle!

Well, I guess you have to get over the being seen ariund thing first, but once you get out of it and don't care what people think you should be fine. Also you could just start by going bicycle riding or something - you don't have to go to the gym or swimming pool to get aerobic exercise. Also, about going to the gym,

I don't know what your local gym is like but I bet that depending on what time you go there, you will find there will be a lot of people who aren't fit either (and probably never will be as their idea of going down the gym is actualy just walking on the tredmills and using the machines without any weights on.) - Don't get me wrong, everyone has to start somewhere, but they never actually increas what they are doing, so they get marginally fitter, but suprisingly never get any better after that as they don't realise if it gets easy they are supposed to incresase the difficulty so they get fitter again - no sense of progression! Anyway, moaning aside..... My point is almost any mainstream gym (I tend to go to smaller less comercial ones) will have times of day when there will be people who are no doubt less fit then you will be using the machines. Also at some times of day you may find that there may be only 2 or 3 other people there (when I prefer to go training with a couple of mates)

Hope that helps...

I use one of those sit-up frame things (duno what they are called) and after a few weeks of using it each night u can tell the difference. It tones ur stomach nicely, u just have to put the effort in!

Oh god, not those things....
I can't stand them... They make it easier to do (less effect on the muscles - less improvement) and lots of those even encourage using the wrong muscles, leading to strains and soreness if you are not carefull. LOL I even know of someone who managed to scew their neck up on one of those things.

You often see them in "mainstream gyms" but if you go to one of the smaller ones that caters almost exclusivly to people who train regularly for sports fitness you will be lucky to see one ever....

Edited cos I feel like moaning

I've got a flabby stomach too. It's down to ating shit since i went to uni, so it's my own fault really. But i had no idea long distance running was good for getting rid of flab off the tummy! My Dad used one of those frame things and it worked briliantly for him, wasn't much good for me though, worse luck!

Well if you want to improve on your situps try the exercise I mentioned in the first post (the one where you hold something similar to the situp pos.)

I have that bit of padding on my tummy now that I want to get rid of. Especially after I saw a pic of me in my swimsuit
but now that pic is my motivator, if I feel too lazy to go and do some exercise I just look at that picture!
