I self-harm....it sounds weird to say that. I think its gr8 that you want to stop, but actually doing something is the hardest thing! Believe me, i know! No one wants to hurt themselves, but it seems like the only thing to do. I hope you can get help, but mayb you should see ur gp and he or she will help you find a counsellor or someone suitable. Personally, i don't find that gp's or counsellors help but i advise you try and go to someone. Don't go through this alone. I wish there was more awareness on the subject - you look at the amount of people simply who visit this site who self-harm and it gives an indication of how wide spread it is. AND IT SHOULDN'T BE!! I wish you all the best, and message me any time.......

Go see a gp or a counsellor. I have friends who self harm and have been put on antidepressants, which seem to have helped a bit.

One of my friends wanted to stop but didn't see someone about it for a few months, and by the time she did go, it had gotten much worse and much more compulsive. It's important to go see someone about it as soon as you can. Tell a close friend, and have someone go with you and meet you after your appointment for moral support.

I don't self harm, but I went to see a counsellor about depression, and it took a friend offering to take me there and meet me after to make me go. He took me out for ice cream after my first appointment, and made time during a very hectic time in his life (his Finals) to go with me. I've been blessed with some very good friends. If you talk to your close friends, I'm sure someone will be willing to go with you.

Best of luck!
xx

I used to self-harm a few years ago. Im now 18 and its just now that the scars are fading but they are still there. My arms were in a major state. I agree with everything thats been said already. If you self harm alot then tell someone and get professional help. It is possible to stop without the help of others, i did but because life changed but if you do need that extra help then get it. how old are you? If you are young then plz plz stop because you will regret it later on in life.

I used to self harm. What I WOULD recommend is DO NOT TELL TOO MANY PEOPLE. I told my best friend, and she told me not to tell any other of my friends. But me, being young(er) and foolish(er), told 3 other 'mates' who promptly alienated me.
Tell a trusted friend or adult. Please remember that you are not alone in doing this, and it is always best to tell someone. Its brilliant that you WANT to stop, that's the first step. Take care xxxx
