Cold/flu

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Anyone know how to make a cold or whatever go away REALLY soon? I caught this one when I was outside in the rain on wednesday night in a T shirt and combats, and I've had sore throat/sneezes/cough/achey body/blocked nose/feeling tired/earache since.

Tried Lockets, Lemsip, Paracetamol so far,as well as switching to menthol cigerettes, I havn'y had any fags today though and I feel worse .

Oh, I tried the good old "get really drunk" trick as well, which didn't do much for me.

Any hints, tips, or remedies will be really appreciated, cheers xxx

that is THE absolute bestest idea i've EVER heard for getting wankered! hehe yes, you ROCK charley. =P

on the other hand, no, i've got no clues. i just drink a lot of lemsip-stylee stuff and blow my nose a lot.

a curry is supposed to be good as well. a really really HOT one. =P

i don't think you can make a cold go away, colds last three days. all you can do is dose yourself up on paracetamol and decongestants (mucron's good) but careful in case the decongestant has paracetamol in it.

you could try echinacea, get it from health food shops, and maybe boots as well. herbal remedy that's meant to be good for colds and flu, boosts the immune system too. you should take it to either get rid of a cold or when you first feel one coming on, as opposed to all the time... i think.

Warm milk with honey and a dash of whiskey in it, cannot beat it or hot chocolate with a dash of baileys in

I think Marmite wants to get you plastered again (you gotta watch him).

As rule of thumb colds are 3 days a-coming, 3 days with you, and 3 days going. There's not a lot you can do to get rid of them. I use Day Nurse/Night Nurse but I don't think it does very much. Lockets are OK. And I think someone said Nurofen was good, or it might have been Anadin Cold&Flu.

Take Garlic tablets and Ginger. It really works. I've been taking (odourless) garlic tablets everyday and it's kept colds away and apparently it's good even if you already have a cold. Drink loads of Water and vitamin C drinks too because they really work.

Have a nice drink of honey & lemon and grate some stem ginger into it. Best solution is to take it as an excuse for 3 days off, rent looads of films and stay in bed

Awww thanks guys . I stopped off college today, called in sick for work, only had 3 cigerettes, coughed up a load of crap, ate lockets, had lemsip, stayed in PJ's all day, and still am now lol . Ahh yeah I watched a bunch of films as well, something sick and mad called "Valentine"?

I was drinking Bailey's on saturday, it tasted nice but didnt seem to do much unfortunately .

Oh yeah Turtle, I ate curry and spicy food all day Saturday, I mean like 3 meals!! Imagine what that would do combined with a load of alcohol...

Oh, had 3 litres of Sunny D as well (had about the same effect as the curry !!)

Marmite: Cheers for teh offer to keep me warm, but I'm as hot as fuck as it is right now anyway. Wouldn't want you to catch it as well

    Thank you people xxx

Time to dispell an age old myth. You DON'T catch colds/flu from been in the cold etc... You catch colds/flu from others via tiny droplets of sputum passed by coughing, sneezing, breathing and kissing. If anything the cold air prevents the spread of colds as it kills all the nasty bugs mid-air. The reason you are more likely to catch them when its cold is because your body is more vunerable as its energy sources are absorbed keeping warm. Once you've got a cold, its tough ! just boost your immune system with healthy eating, sleep and staying warm and let it work its magic !

Charley get well soon babe, i hate having a cold, you always forget what a nightmare they are till you've got one

I have a very weak immune system and also I catch things very easily, eg my brother catches a cold from me then i get better passed straight back to me!!

    Lauri

When your immune system rids you of a cold the killer cells stay in your blood stream for ages just in case it returns, so it is virtually imossible to catch the same cold twice, this is how vaccinations work if you keep catching colds their must be a small problem with your immunity, possibly caused by your diet are you a vegetarian ? don't just accepting colds, go see your doc and he may be able to put a stop to it

can i suggest you ring nhs direct and ask which vitamin supplements you can take to improve your immune system, i'm not going to guess on this one, nor am i going to advice you on the eating thing cause i have no idea what i'm on about and i might make matters worse ! No doubt you've had plenty of advice anyway. But i would just take that extra bit of effort to find out on the vitamin thing, it really will make a difference and get rid of all those nasty colds ! And to rid the bugs, i send my hugs coz you need em ! hope you get better, be strong

whatever I said about garlic and cod liver oil - scrap it.
I now have a cold from hell that started in my throat and spread to my nose. Still in work though and drinking a vile vegetable juice thing from called V8. Blergh.

Still - if it goes quickly I guess it'll be because of the veg and vitamin C

meat is a valuable component of the human diet, things such as iron and protien are important in our well been. It isn't bad been vegeterian as long as you make up the lost nutrients elsewhere, like supplements
