is deranged rambling another of the symptoms?

sit down and repeat to yourself 1000 time "I've not got cjd"

Excellent diagnosis Doctor: classic case of deranged rambling.

Seriously though, if you really had CJD you would know about it. The symptoms you have are probably flu or simply depression. The chance of actually getting CJD is laughably small so you can stop worrying about it.

Or, as is more likely, youre a hypochondriac. Stop pestering the doctors,. its a waste of everyones time. And get help for why youre so paranoid about catching something that doesnt exist.

Hey guys a little compassion please! It sounds like you need something to take your mind off of it.

have you seen the doctorif you are worried im sure he/she will tll u otherwise and put your mind at rest ull be fine!

Most of the replies here are completely insensitive. It is understandable that you would be worried about CJD because of the way it is portrayed in the media. Maybe it would help you to research the topic a little - not just the symptoms. Often when you're paranoid of having an illness and you search just the symptoms, they'll probably stretch to fit the illness.
Are you being treated/counselled for your anxiety and depression? I think these are serious issues and not 'a waste of everyone's time' - which people would understand if they had ever been through depression.
Don't believe everything you read/watch in the media - especially if it's about science because they always get it wrong!

That's rich (tea). I find it hard to digest(ive). You are obviously crackers. Have you been drinking too much bourbon? Hobnob, that's all I can say!

We weren't being insensitive - we were being blokes, and blokes say it how it is. We were pointing out the minimal risk of catching CJD.

And the media always gets it wrong about science does it? That's a bit of a sweeping generalisation, don't you think? The media made big deal out of mad cow disease because it was the fault of farmers who were once again after the quick buck, rather than caring about their livestock or the genral public who consume their produce.

Depression is a serious illness and most people do take it seriously. But sometimes what people need is a bit of support and reassurance rather than 'counselling'. Get back to reality.

i agree, most of the replies ARE insensitive here. im shocked and surprised with a lot of the things i read on thesite now, there seem to be way more people keen to put others down and make them feel bad, by posts like this, saying they're wasting people's time, than ones actually trying to help. its just not on. this is a place people come to for support and advice, not people telling them off for bothering to waste time!!

this person quite clearly is worried about cjd, kermit what do you mean it doesnt exist? of course it does. its not common, but it DOES exist and i have no idea why you said that.

okay so it's a pretty unbelievable thing to think, and very unlikely the worrying is warranted... but does it really hurt to be a bit nicer about it? it's just basic courtesy. first 3 responses here got progressively worse. it saddens me, no really, and dont you laugh at me or say that im wasting time by posting this.

i dont think it's too much to ask that people get treated by respect, unless they do something that clearly warrants the loss of that respect.

"i dont think it's too much to ask that people get treated by respect, unless they do something that clearly warrants the loss of that respect."

exactly. im kinda new around here, but ive noticed that a lot of people come on the site cos they want help, not a load of insensitive criticism.
if someone is brave enough to share their problems or worries, however small/insignificant they may seem to you, they deserve support. if u cant give them that support, no-one's forcing u to reply to their post!

colablondi - iagree with those who suggested u visit the doctor, at least they'll be able to put your mind at rest, and maybe help you with your anxiety and depression too.

seriously tho, there is plenty of good advice. and i bet he doesn't come back to find the answer to his problem anyway.

    The ignorance is mind numbing

GFM: What's the point of writing a post saying 'I know exactly how you feel' or 'Your GP will be able to help you' when we know nothing about this chap or his previous treatment/diagnoses. Whilst I agree that the replies did seem somewhat insensitive (for which I apologise), there is very little we can do for him over the net so we were pointing out the unlikelihood of actually having CJD.

I've written sincere replies before that aren't even read by the poster, so I agree with Turtle there.

kentish man, you'd be surprised at the amount of help that knowing another person understands can give. if we just assume we cant help anyone because we dont know any history, then this forum would be completely pointless. gotta start somewhere.

Fair enough, and we can all say something about dpression, but I doubt any of us have ever thought we have had CJD. By pigeon-holing all depressed people together and saying we understand what they are going through is both pointless and unhelpful. Without a detailed knowledge of a particular person's feelings we cannot possibly attempt to solve these complex problems. Depression is not something that can be sorted out overnight by saying 'I know how you feel'. It takes support from family/friends and health professionals. We should not attempt to take control of a stranger's problems over a website.

I see where you're coming from but sometimes by over-simplifying problems we can do more harm than good.

Maybe I was a little insensitive, but how else could I say it? *huggles for having an irrational fear*? I advised her to get help for whats causing the irrational hypocondria, which is what she needs, not to be told its ok to continually see doctors telling them shes got CJD.
  • Girl-From-MarsGirl-From-Mars Posts: 2,822 Boards Guru
yes kentish man, depression doesnt just go away because some people on a msg board know how you feel... believe me, i know.

but you can do more harm than good imho, by undermining people's thoughts, however irrational you might think they are. i think generally if people (not necessarily you btw) find a thread amusing, or dont think you have anything you can add that will help the person, then just dont. close it and forget it's there, rather than getting people in to have a laugh at the poster's expensive. i've seen this done a lot here, and it makes me glad i dont post my problems here anymore.

your post wasnt that bad really... i have more of a problem with kermit's. k, you're probably right, they're a hypochondriac. and they DO definitely need help about the paranoia. but, you went about this completely the wrong way! i dont think they'd already pestered any doctors, so saying to stop pestering is making an assumption that's unnecessary... your post came out as looking hurtful and rude to me. and cjd *does* exist.

just saying that you understand isnt what i meant. i was talking about finding someone who is actually feeling something the same as you, it really does help discussing it, knowing you're not a freak or whatever. i'm not just pontificating here, i have/do suffer from depression, and i know a great many people in the same boat. i can only speak from my own experiences.

im not suggesting the health board is here to solve complex problems. but, the person posted something that was worrying them... we're here to try and help them stop worrying, find a way of sorting it out so its no longer a problem. its not a substitute for health professionals, but sometimes people need a helping push in the right direction.

you get what im on about by now i should hope.

I'm not disagreeing with you GFM, but these things aren't cut-and-dry.

It's easy to post something on a msg board that is very personal when you are a newbie because no-one knows you. By definition a newbie is new and therefore unknown to the other posters. However, it makes it difficult for anyone to helpfully answer the often complex problems like depression that crop up. We can offer support/encouragement and our own experiences of the disease but little else. When you have made 5000+ posts then people know you a lot better and therefore it becomes much more difficult for you to post up health problems, but conversly it makes it a lot easier for your friends on here to post a useful reply.

We probably all have some experience of depression, whether ourselves, or our friends and family. There are certainly things we can do via a msg board, but we shouldn't (and can't) attempt to solve a problem, simply point out those who can, as you rightly say.

I've been chatting to colablondi and she's a damned nice young lady, ok i say that about all the girlies but i really do mean it. Well i'm quite frankly shocked by your reactions on the whole, she needs a little support and all she seems to have gotten is grief! It shouldn't matter whether someone has posted 1 or a million pieces the fact of the matter is they shouldn't be subjected to ridical.

    Disgusted with some of your attitudes <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="mad.gif" border="0">

*has just returned to this subject*

I apologise for what I wrote if its upset/offended anyone, Im not too big to say sorry. But what I resent is people saying that Im taking the piss out of peoples problems when I arent- people who know me will know (or should realise) that Ive got enough problems of my own to not laugh at someone elses.

Sorry to colablondi...if youve seen the doctors about ur depression, then thats great. All the best, hope you get over it very soon. And try not to worry about CJD, its the media that has blown up a tiny disease up to epidemic proportions.
