Leaving spices on the windowsill

Does it wreck them? There's nowhere else for them in our tiny kitchen, but when I went to use the chilli powder it didn't seem to be too spicy - I could even put it on my tongue without tasting spicy. Is it the sunlight that did this?

I would say yes. Sunlight has strong oxidising power.

erm. that may be so but from experience, i have herbs and spices in my windowsill - it doesn't do them any harm imo.

There you go Kangy, best way to keep spices.

Thanks rubberskin, my kitchen is soooo tiny with no storage so everything's piled up on top of each other already. I may have to invest in a cardboard box for them if they're gonna get ruined in the light

As rubberskin said, sunlight does made the taste of spices fade after a while, hence why you should keep them in the cupboard if possible. That or you could paint the containers black :p
