Mine's has to be either...

Arctic Monkeys - A Certain Romance
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR....
Fratellis - Creepin' Up The Backstairs
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
CSS - Let's Make Love
ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Glasvegas - Go Square Go!

Too many good memories attached to those bad boys even though they're played all over the chuffing ship. :)

What about you?

Sigur Ros - Hoppipola (I know it's from 2005, but Planet Earth made it)
The Flaming Lips - The W.A.N.D.
The Killers - When You Were Young
Pussy Cat Dolls - Don't Cha (funny incident at work)
    Scott Matthews - Elusive

    And then from going out:

Shakira - whatever the fuck that was called
Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Ooooh (unfortunate, I know)

    Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah

Made Europe sit up and take notice.

... and make a mental note to cancel Eurovision next year.

Surely song of the year has to be "Crazy"?

Start Wearing Purple - Gogol Bordello
To Die A Virgin - Divine Comedy
    Chelsea Dagger - Fratellis
Singin' In The Rain - Jive Aces
    The Dean & I - 10cc (re-issue I know; but I don't care)

Do they have to be released? Or can it be songs I've got that were recorded this year?

Apparently the most downloaded song on iTunes this year.

Have no idea what the song of the year would be...not that I can choose between any, I just can't think of any. My finger's obviously on the pulse of today's music.

    Rouge Traders - Voodoo Child
Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing
Girls Aloud - Somethin Kinda Ooh
3AM ft Tracey Cole - Stars Are Blind

Literally the only half decent chart music there's been this year, seeing as I can't abide James Morrison, McFly, My Chemical Romance, Snow Patrol, Razor-shite, Chamillionaire etc

Oh forgot about that one. Reminds me of dancing in a gay club in Manchester with my friend, "if anyone tries it one with me, be prepared to fling your arms around me." :p Any excuse.

It would get my vote, though I did like Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger as well.

My favourite single track of 2006:

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth

    Or

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cheated Hearts

    Good one :thumb:

For me it'd have to be CYHSY's In This Home On Ice, and also Belle & Sebastian's White Collar Boy.

There's so many for me - all for different reasons, and most of them are shocking. :p Top of the list though, I'm going to say...

The Streets vs Pete Doherty - Prangin' Out (for obvious reasons :p)

Fedde Le Grande - Put Your Hands Up (because it reminds me of one of the best weekends EVER in London with my best mate back at the start of August).

The Young Knives - Weekends And Bleak Days (Hot Summer)
White Rose Movement - Girls In The Back
The Rifles - Shes Got Standards
Towers Of London - Kill The Pop Scene.

Aw, that song reminds me of Reading Festival, it's absolutely amazing live that tune. Classic tune.

You seeing them when they come to Scotland? Got myself a cheeky ticket for Glasgow, wahey.

I'm skint eastwood at the moment so I can't think about things like these just now, much as I'd want to!

My flatmate writes music reviews for a free entertainment magazine called The Skinny (do you get it in Glasgow?), and he's probably getting the chance to interview CYHSY the cunt.

Might ask him if he can can blag a couple of tickets for a show. He gets all sorts of free passes for stuff!

I was talking about this the other day and realised that although I've bought a toss-load of CDs this year, the only one off the top of my head that is from 2006 is On An Island by David Gilmour. 2006 has been a year for music by numbers: Razorlight, Snow Patrol, the Killers... :(

I only bought two 2006 albums. Thom Yorke and The Flaming Lips. And they were both really good. There's a few more I might be interested in though, but I usually buy albums once they've gone down to about £7 after a year or so.

The FLips album is good, not great, but I'll probably get round to buying it sometime. They're definitely the most 'fun' band I've ever seen live.

I just wait 'til the end of the year, and look at the Metacritic website to see what the top rated albums are. They're usually people no-one has heard of. I've listened to one on this list. But anyway, the top 30 albums of the year, as judged by the world's music magazines:

1 Savane by Ali Farka Toure
2 Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards by Tom Waits
3 Hell Hath No Fury by Clipse
4 Modern Times by Bob Dylan
    5 Ys by Joanna Newsom
6 Return To Cookie Mountain by TV On The Radio
    7 Fishscale by Ghostface Killah
8 For Hero: For Fool by Subtle
    9 Destroyer's Rubies by Destroyer
10 The Town And The City by Los Lobos
11 Estudando o Pagode by Tom Zé
12 'Sno Angel Like You by Howe Gelb
13 Boys And Girls In America by The Hold Steady
    14 Taiga by OOIOO
15 The Drift by Scott Walker
16 The Crane Wife by The Decemberists
17 I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass by Yo La Tengo
    18 Serena-Maneesh by Serena-Maneesh
19 Black Cadillac by Rosanne Cash
20 These Days by Vince Gill
21 Fox Confessor Brings The Flood by Neko Case
