I can't burp.

Hey guys

I have had this problem all my life and its really annoying.
I have never done a natural burp (maybe when i was a baby but not in the past 15 years at least)
Even when i have eaten a huge meal or have been drinking fizzy drinks i just don't burp and it really does my head in because i end up feeling really bloated and espically when im drinking alcho pops or beers because all the gas builds up in my stomach and makes me feel really bloated and gassy which makes me feel sick.
And no i don't let it out the other end either! Instead of burping i get these weird gurlgles come up in my throat and sometimes its really embarasing because they can be quite loud, i have noticed i get the gurgles really bad after i have been smoking weed aswell?! Don't really know how its all connected?
Does anyone else have thsi problem? Know any ways of making myself burp??! lol
Thanks

My friend can't burp either. The doctor told her to put two fingers down her throat, so this is what she does. Quite funny on a night out coz when she needs to do it she tells me she is just 'going to burp, back in 2 mins' then goes in a toilet cubilcle to do it hehe

  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
You have to hold your fingers there to make yourself sick. All the wind comes out first

Does anyone else find that if you force yourself to do an inward burp, you then have to continue doing inward burps for the rest of the day, or you feel like you've got something stuck in your throat?

Its awful - I can never stop doing them once I've started.
And sometimes I yawn so widely that my throat makes a loud burpy noise. Which is pretty embarrassing.

I used to not be able to burp either... until I had my first drink of straight vodka. I found it so entertaining that I could finally burp, now I can't stop and it can be so annoying as I mostly get shouted at by my parents for it now! haha
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Yeah its well annoying when i'm out on the piss as all the gases build up inside me and makes me feel sick as fuck!
It also means i can't down any sort of drink :crying: so i feel left out when it comes to downing compitions! (and burping competions of course!)

I can burp whenever I want. I did it just then, but you lot won't be able to tell, unless I record it. Which I'm not going to do.

to the dude who can't burp

hey man, i have the same problem.. know exactly what you go thru.. it sucks bigtime.. always sick after I eat.. Basically from researching it.. i found that what it is is basically the opposite of acid reflux.. that valve that opens up when people get acid reflux, well, it likes to stay shut with us.. i've read that they can do surgery to fix it but i've found a way to burp.. it's not a normal sounding burp and won't allow you to burp on command but it will save you for sure when you feel sick from not being able to when you need to. here's how you do it.

when you feel like you should be burping or getting the air out do this.

stick your jaw out, tilt yur head up (get the straightest passage way you can)

contract your abdominal muscles (much like you do when yur puking) and open your throat as much as you can..

practice this as much as you can and you'll do it.. trust me.. i know how it is when you ask people and no one seems to get it.. all they say is "just swallow air" that does not work.. and means nothing.. i don't get why people say that.. anyway, try that and get back to me.

this is great... After 24 years of not knowing "how" to burp, I finally find out that I am not alone! All of the previous posters have spoken about so many of my problems. I have told so many of my friends of my problems and they go through stages in belief. First they don't believe at all, second they try and teach me, then lastly the give up and just start breaking my B@lls about it. I too, wish I could just down a beer in a drinking contest!

This topic was great for me, for now I know why every morning I "gag" when brushing my teeth. It is that "burp" that previous posters have spoken about! Nothing comes out, but a huge gush of air. Different then a normal "gag." That whole gurgle thing, I hate that too. I have done it a couple of times when making out with a girl. I feel it coming, so I try and pull away.... Embarrassing all the same.

I feel like I know you all so well!

    --John

P.S. I do let mine out the other end... just not quick enough!

Haha I never saw this thread! I can't burp either.

(I know it's an old thread but bah never mind.)

I can't burp either, and thought I was the only one in the world who couldn't. I learned the "stick your fingers down your throat until the bubble comes out" trick in college when I started drinking beer. Now the only problem is that in public restrooms, if someone comes in during one of my belches, they MUST think I'm bulemic because it sounds so GROSS. Good thing I'm a heavy-set woman...

Does anyone know of anyone who has ever had this fixed? I've never talked to a doctor who understands what I'm talking about, much less knows how to fix it.

Nice to see you all here, and that I'm not alone!!!!!!! :thumb:

    you weirdo's

    And I'm a weirdo too.
Thought I'd do a quick search and seems there are many who can't burp.
I can now but not until I was 25. I can't burp on demand & get little warning of one coming but god it's great to get that gas out. Up to then out drinking etc I'd reach critical mass, no release & would end up doing one massive, painful burp & throw up everywhere. Then I felt great! I always thought that when people burped they just made the noise themselves, so that's what I did for 25 years & thought nothing of it. Only beer or a litre of coke was a real problem, the rest of the time it was just discomfort. If you can't burp I would say go see a specialist, it will substantially improve your quality of life, trust me. If only I'd known it wasn't right I would of done something about it sooner.
Good luck all who can't burp, push your doc to see a specialist & sort it out.

    What kind of specialist?

Who specializes in "people who can't burp"? The last GP I told about it looked at me like I had three heads and one of them was speaking Greek.... THANK YOU for your feedback, and I'm glad you found relief!!!!

I could never burp, then the good news is at about 28 all of a sudden I could! No-one really believed me either that I couldn't. I had thought of seeing a doctor about it but was worried that I would get thrown out. Did the whole fingers down the throat things regularly for relief much to others amusement. Just couldn't believe it when it happened on its own!!! Totally out of the blue!!!! Fabulous!!!! Bizarre!!!

I understand how the guys on this thread feel who can't burp. I can burp, but not on demand, which is usaully alright because if I get gassy eventually by body will force me to burp automatically, well in most cases anyway. Occasionaly I won't be able to burp, usually when I'm out on the piss. So I'll keep drinking hoping that I will burp at any minute but it just gets worse and worse. When I tell my mates "I can't drink anymore because I'm all gassy and bloated and I feel sick" they look at me like I'm an idiot and just say "why don't u just burp". I've done everything they say, sucked in air, but I could never get myself to burp on command like all of my mates. I feel sorry for the people who can't burp at all, this only happens to me occasionally, for you guys it would be every night.
