I wouldn't shop there anyway. But this is a still a disgrace.

I mean, wtf? "Cause alarm"? I am never alarmed to see a member of the armed forces, I mean, you'd have to not be aware of the world existing to have any sortof suprise reaction at a squadie.

    What a load of tards.

Quite odd really, Al Fayed has always been pretty desperate to improve his shady image hence all the charity work I think. I'd have thought he'd have at least apologised for this kind of gaffe. Inexcusable on part of Harrods. I don't shop there anyway though, even if I had the money to I think I'd rather go to Selfridges.

That Al Fiyed is a moron anyway. My mate works there and shes told me what hes like.

Was Al Fiyed born in this country by the way?

It's the Daily Mail putting a stupid spin on it, like normal.

Harrods has always had a dress code barring military attire, along with 1001 other things.

What a strange ruling, I presume a lower management type who just didnt really think it through.

Its a horrid shop anyway, I've never been in a food shop where the staff are so unpleasant and rude. OK I wasnt wearing a tux but my money is as good as anyone elses.

I bet he'd let the bomb disposal guys in, in uniform, if there was a bomb in his shop.

    What a prick.

But if they turned up with the robot on their day off just to get a few things in the shop I think it might cause a bit of panic.

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

Still, I suppose the HateMail's got what it wanted- a bit of fake righteous indignation against someone who is involved with its most hated rival, the Express.

What's the connection between Al Fayed and the Express? I know the porn baron Richard Desmond owns it, didn't know Al Fayed was involved.

AFAIK they're friends- Al Fayed certainly regularly appears in the pages of the Express with his stories about Diana and Dodi.

There must be friends alright. The constant Diana conspiracy front pages in the Express, a regular feature practically every Monday and one or two other days a week as well, have become an international laughing stock.

Harrods are fuckwits. As if seeing someone in uniform is going to cause people either to panic or misstake them for shop floor staff.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    Their shop, their dress code.

Many people would be panicked if they saw people in full military uniform stomping about the place. But that isn't the point- Harrods don't want people in military uniform in their shop. I see no problem with that, and nor do most other people, who don't go running off to the papers like some whingeing twat.

A storm about nothing, as usual from the filth rag that is the Daily Mail.

Im sorry, but anyone that panicks when they see someone wearing there uniform while holding there one year old son is a a asshole, if they was to ban people wearing a turban in the shop then all hell would break out, i personal think treating a member of our armed forces in this way in shamful

Well they probably would be scared if they thought the army was made up of 80 year old men. I know we all liked Dad's Army, but it might be a bit unnerving to discover that that's what the army's really like.

I think your usage of the English language is shameful, but I digress.

Why should someone get dispensation on the dress code just because of who he is? Uniform, along with a thousand other things, is banned from Harrods. Don't like it, don't bloody shop there.

Harrods, to their credit, uphold the dress code against everyone. An American heiress was turned away not so long ago because she was wearing unsuitable clothing, so what is the difference between her and this soldier?

People would be unnerved because people (rightly) assume that people only wear uniform if they are on duty.

    Health and safety. Different issue.

Completely different, unless you wish to illustrate how a shop's dress code gives you cancer?

i bet they wouldnt have a problem with police showing up in uniform to arrest a shoplifter?

    lol thats a point.

Not really, because he's there on duty. The point is that they don't want their customers to assume that all uniformed people are there on duty and possibly cause alarm. So they ban people wearing uniforms who are off-duty.

I think that it being Rememberence Day was unfortunate but I agree that it's their shop and they are free to have dress codes.
