    You get IS if you are not capable of looking for work but aren't eligible for Incapacity Benefit. You get Jobseekers Allowance otherwise. Yes you can claim it at your folks. You can't claim Housing Benefit though.

    Actually I don't think you can get it if you're 16 or 17.

    As I understand it you can only get IS/JSA as a 16/17 year old if you can't live with your parents after leaving local authority care, are half of a couple with a child or would otherwise suffer severe hardship if you didn't receive it. (God knows what constitutes severe hardship.) I'm guessing moving back home would rule out all three.

    So yes, the answer to the OP's question is, only if you're aged 18+.
