Flatmate being an absolute twat

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Just had a big fuck off row with one of my flatmates.

We don't really get on, but I think it exploded tonight.

Basically, I was making myself something to munch on before I went to sleep. We were just chatting about our day and stuff, and I mentioned about them Asian boys who got found guilty of murdering the young lad in Glasgow, and how it happened about 50 yards from my old flat, and I said they were the scum of the earth.

He then started saying "Would you be saying they were scum if they were white?" and shit like that, and I'm like "Uhhh, yeah?", then he tries to paint me as a racist person which I'm not at all. Then he starts shit (shouting btw) about how I'm the sort who'd hate it if my girlfriend left me for a black man

The boy is an absolute fucking lunatic. He's really upset me this time and I'm quite scared of him sometimes. He was horrible to me at the weekend when I was getting dropped off and me and the girl sat speaking in the car for a bit, hestarted on about how it was illegal and how he could get in trouble from the housing people because it was a private cul-de-sac (it's his flat) and I should take it as a final warning (wtf)

I don't want to live with this person anymore because he's really fucking upsetting me. It's really late and I'm wound up to fuck.

Is there any way to get out of a tenancy agreement on the grounds that your flatmate is a total bawbag?

If not, what's the best way to deal with it, because I'll be fucked if I'm letting him keep doing this to me :(

    is this lad black/asian?

and if you dont mind me asking are you a lesbian/bi-sexual?

just the bit where all you were doing was sitting in the car for abit seemed really out of order, just thinking maybe hes worried about "the neighbours seeing" , i dunno thats a complete assumption really.

Best off speaking to shelter, they can advise you of your rights with your tenancy.

No, he's Chinese and I'm a straight boy.

We didn't do anything in the car really, just sat and talked for an hour or so. He kept looking at us out of the kitchen window though like I was his kid and it was a school night.

The guy has always been a bit easy to jump on my back, but since the weekend he's cranked it up a few notches for whatever reason.

Discuss it with him, calmly though, dont let it get into a shouting match. If you've both rubbed each other up the wrong way then surely (and dont take this the wrong way) he perhaps dosent want to live with you anymore either? Maybe he's got his own shit going on and your just the nearest/easiest target. Who knows.

How much longer has your tenancy got btw?

He sounds like a bit of a nutter, and a lot of people are too quick to pull the racist card if you say anything even slightly un pc (which in your case you did not, those blokes were murderous scum)

My advice is say 'Hey, *insert name*, could we have a chat/talk please' just sit down, be nice and just discuss it calmly, theres no point in letting shit bottle up until it boils over.

Well, if he's Chinese and you were saying the Asian boys were the scum of the earth I can see why he might have taken it to heart. Even if you didn't mean it like all Asians are scum then it's a bit like what the muslims are suffering, people's xenophobia generalising about a certain minority.

However, from what you're saying he does seem to have overreacted and that this got nastier than it should have. It's hard to say what's appropriate without having witnessed the argument but I think you should try to have a chat. Be honest but don't get excited. Maybe he will either improve or offer you to leave. If it starts getting out of hand you should delay it and discontinue talking to him.
Although I don't quite know what to suggest, I'd probably get scared myself and preferably not want to talk to him again.

I don't quite get what about you chatting a bit in the car outside is illegal?? Sounds bizarre.

I fucking hate cunts like that, twist your words and make you look like a bad boy.

I mean if you told him to fuck off he'd probably call you a racist.

    Cheers guys.

Char - He came to me this morning and apologised for going off on one. I shook his hand and went along with it because I was still half asleep and just for general harmony. He's always been a bit uptight and stuff (the other boy I live with agrees) and he is about 7 years older than me. I don't think he really likes the fact that I'm 23 and I'm still young and do young peoples stuff, and maybe I don't appreciate the fact that he's older etc

Only signed a new 6 month tenancy on the 29th of last month (whoops), but it's fine because the next place I move to I'm gonna try and live with people I know, and that'll take time to sort out.

Just don't really like being painted as a racist because that's out of order. I don't think I'm a hard boy to get on with so I s'pose it's just a matter of being civil until I get a move.

Glad things have sorted themselves out a bit for you. Now, about these lesbian tendencies of yours .......... :D
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'd say just carry on being civil and avoid socialising outside of your house. You only got 6 months to get through and at least the peace has been kept.
He probably feels really silly now.
Is he new to the country?

Nah, he's been here all his life.

I can be a bit dopey at times, so I'm thinking he maybe thought I was speaking without really knowing what I was on about. Hopefully that's the end of it though.

And I think that's about the third time on here I've been mistaken for a lesbian :eek2:

maybe but it's just a term for someone like black, dyslexic, ambidextrous and tenant are all terms for people

I'm not overly keen on lesbians, let alone the word. I'm sure that there are some great lesbians out there, Sandy Toksvig springs to mind, but i seem to have only ever met the Guinness swilling, men hating, all men are rapists section of the Lesbian Rainbow.

And as for all men are rapists, no we're not thank you very much. I saw a vagina in a book once and i wasn't impressed, let alone have the urge to stick me giblets in there. And yes i know rape is more about power than sex, but even if i did 'over power' a woman, what would i do with her ? I prefer to cook for myself, know how the washing machine and iron work and i'm home all day so cleaning gives me something to do. I spose we could have coffee and bickies and slag off our crap shags :D

Ah see I've only ever met the young, sweet, fresh faced ones. Didn't even realise they were gay until I tried on the Bri-namite charm and found out the cold, hard truth :thumb:
