amitriptyline vs. SSRIs

Has anyone been on amitriptyline for something other than depression (or a low dose) and also on SSRI antidepressants (not at the same time)?

I tried a selection of SSRIs back in the day when I was depressed, and didn't get on with any of them, and had to come off all but citalopram due to the side efects.

Now my specialist wants to try me on amitriptyline for something non-depression related, and I have to say I'm not sold on the idea. I've been poking about the internet for information on it, but nowt beats real experience.

I'm worried that it'll (a) make me sleep all the time - SSRIs made me uncontrollaby tired and I'm already cream crackered 90% of the time, and (b) make me go nuts, just as I've reached a level, mental health wise.

I know the only way to find out is to take them and see what happens, but just wondered if anyone could relate.

I don't know personally but I was talking to one of my friends about this just last night. He gets amitriptyline for panic attacks and says it's good, and didn't make him sleepy like SSRIs had done.

Amitriptyline is usually more sedating than SSRI's isnt it?? Its usually taken at night, and at low doses for pain.

Aye, that's what I've heard. I've been prescribed 25mg once a day (in the evening), which apparently is a very low dose, but I'm not keen on the idea of being zombified.

I'm already knackered all the time, but my doc has a theory that it's because I don't get the right kind of sleep, and so these will help. We shall see.
