How Do You Clean Your Bottom?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Someone's post on here go me thinking.

We all go to the toilet, but what I was wondering is how do most people clean themselves afterwards when you've done a number 2?

We have a Biday (spelling??)

Which shoots a jet of water at your behind and I find that excellent and I feel totally clean afterwards.

But I read somewhere that most people use toilet rolls ... BUT before they use it or half way through using it they make it damp under a tap and then use it?

Is that true?

We've had a Biday for like 20 years so it's the way I know..

I'd be interested to know how everyone else gets the job done ..

I just use dry bog roll. If I'm feeling messy or sensitive because I've been ill (gross I know, sorry) then I may run it under the tap to sort things out.

Dry toilet roll, although on my uber hygiene kick what with having an open wound very near by the specialist nurses suggested rinsing with a shower head afterwards (which I guess is just like a bidet).

Not that strange a question based on your answer ..

So come on .. spill how do you wash with soap? Enless you have a Bidet I can't imagine how you coordinate all of that, I mean soap, water, drying, etc?

BTW Wikipedia had some nice articles on the matter

We have a bidet in our bathroom at home but noone uses it, it's just always been there. Actually I always found it more useful for cleaning my feet.

Our house in cornwall has a bidet - it's always full of sand from feet - they're actually much more useful than you think!

I usually wipe my bum with loo roll, and wash my bits with femfresh non perfume soap in the shower.

i don't often give my arse hole a rigorous cleansing, tbh. i don't tend to shit all around it.

not that i'm a jippo and don't wipe or anything. :p

    I always use a wetwipe/kandoo type thing.

If we dont have any, then i wash afterwards using the sink. Its not particularly difficult, but obviously a wetwipe is easier.
I do that for both number ones and number twos.

God, same. I'm left wondering how the hell some of you poo. :eek2:

I (and everyone I know well enough to comment on) just use run of the mill loo roll. The only times I've needed more is when I've been ill in a downward fashion, and then I'd just have a wash.

This has got to be the oddest topic I've ever replied to.

Well the other person's thread got me thinking... and cos I know we have a Bidet which most people don't. And some chap told me most people wet the paper first which I thought .. naah .. do they really .. I don't know cos we have a Bidet that uses water to clean you.

And I've travelled to other countries where they consider JUST using dry toilet paper unclean (or rather not clean enough .. getting skid marks for instance)

Plus from a health aspect, espacially in sexual health most experts advise you not to for example take a finger inserted intot he anus and put it in a woman's vagina for example when fingering her.

A lot of the english washing habits aren't seen in other countries - for example the act of having two seperate hot and cold water taps in a sink so you can fill the bowl up and then wash, most other places have a mixer tap and you just wash under running water, which most people would consider cleaner then the bowl method.

I don't think it's weird question to ask and it's probabaly something we've picked up from our parents, mine grew up abroad in countries where washing with water was normal.

Plus it's something like people have said they didn't consider, I never thought about paper vs water too much until I needed the loo at a Middle Eastern Airport and was confronted with a stall that had no paper in it just a hose and showerhead type attachment and wasn't even sure how to use it without getting the entire toilet seat wet.

For some of you that haven't travelled much you'll be in for a shock if you ever do .. lol

See if you learn something new then there's nowt wrong.

This is the kind of bacteria that live in human waste, I reckon a jet of running water would do a better job of getting rid of those little buggers then just dry paper.

    feces.jpg

I'm just guessing but I reckon getting the job done properly is a more important issue for women then it is for men, as it would be far easier to bacteria fromthe anus to get into the vagina then the penis, via fingers, fingering, sex, etc.

    http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2051.html

health care providers who cheer that bidets clean better than toilet paper; help prevent vaginitis, urinary tract infections, and other ailments; and, leave things cleaner and fresher smelling down there after sex and during menstruation.

They are clearly a huge help for people with hemorrhoids, diarrhea, rashes, and infections, which toilet tissue can aggravate, spread, and add to already painful situations.

What did people use before toilet paper was invented?

*Newsprint, paper catalogue pages in early US
*Hayballs, Scraper/gompf stick kept in container by the privy in the Middle Ages

*Pages from a book, British Lords
    *Coconut shells in early Hawaii
*Lace was used by French Royalty
*Public Restrooms in Ancient Rome- A sponge soaked in salt water, on the end of a stick
*The Wealthy in Ancient Rome-Wool and Rosewater
    *French Royalty-lace, hemp
*Hemp & wool were used by the elite citizens of the world
*Defecating in the river was very common internationally
    *Bidet, France
*Snow and Tundra Moss were used by early Eskimos

The sponge on the end of a stick used in classical times for arse wiping is of course the origin of the phrase 'the wrong end of the stick'.

The sticks were communal and kept in a pot of water at the entrance to the toilet.
