How to approach for sponsoship?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm helping a friend with her company find sponsors to cover some of the cost or provide some materials.

How do I approach a company to see if they would like to be a sponsor? Who do I talk to if I dont have a contact? What do I say? Do I just go "We're looking for sponsors!"? I'm quite presentable, but is it advantageous to inquire in person, or telephone (especially if I dont have a contact)?

Thanks.

Go to their HR department, with a pre-prepared proposal saying who you are, what you do, and what they can gain by sponsoring them. Offer advertising or updates on your progress, and give them rough figures of how much it'd cost to cover this expense, or that expense. Round numbers sound nice, so "£250 would pay for all our glue" or whatever.

what else could i offer potential sponsors apart from:

    1) Advertisement (banners) on our website
    2) Their logo will be included on flyers
    3) Using our product to channel their promotions campaign, e.g. including a discount card/flyer in our CDs

    thanks.
