yoofs in the future

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
In the average day, where do most of our influences come from? The media, the workplace/college, friends, family, and the internet. If we look at the media, who runs the media? Aside from Rupert Murdock jokes, how many journalists are teenagers?

Well, I like this.. projection into the future from the perspective of a teenager living in 2026

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by Google

It's not often the ministers, journalists and such actually say kids being kids is a good thing, a desirable thing.
If "religion is the opiate of the people", then immersive multiplayer 3D virtual worlds are hard-core Afghani heroin.

    Are kids doomed?

    No.

In the 50's and 60's it was Rock n Roll that was going to kill our kids.
In the 70's and 80's it became Heavy Metal.
In the 90's I can't remember if it was anything.
Now in the 2000's, it seems that Computer Games and Black Metal are getting the blame.

    And we aren't dead yet!

Not only that but humanity has jumped leaps and bounds since then. I hate the fact that every generation our parents are blaming us for everything, give us a break ffs.

Oh and in the 90's it was ecstacied up ravers! ;)

Surely the ecstacied ravers were too old to be classed as kids in danger of anything, surely they were late teens...

The punks/metal heads/hippies weren't kids either. It was the whole "my kid is going to grow up just like them and society is fucked" attitude by the older generations.

But the point raised in that article is that 'google destroyed the minds of a generation'. I dunno if we are too pre-packaged these days, if there's too much bubblewrap and such. Surely getting drunk and passing out, waking up in A&E is a learning experience that kids maybe should go through, rather than just being told alcohol is bad.

I think we're moving towards that sort of society but where this is pushed, there will always be dissent. We're always getitng told what and what not to do but whether we listen or not is a different story altogether.

    Exactally.

Hell, Google is just one step up the ladder.

Did people bitch and moan when Encyclopedias where invented? Libraries? Books? All made research easier. The internet is merl a progression of this, google the searching tool another.

What, do these cocks want us to turn back evolution too incase it makes life to easy and destorys Humanity? Fuck off. Science and Progress can't be stopped, be you The Church, Islamist Clerics, Paranoid Parents, Or just general mad cunts.

Progress is a natural process, you can't stop it. We shall always strive to make things better.

I thought that the point was that control was killing a generation.

Ahh, but Encyclopedias are controlled. With the internet, anyone can express an opinion, and the type of people who complain about our youth being fucked up don't seem to like that, for fear that young people might actually relate to some of it and things will change.

No, not killing, but degenerating. Wait until we got flashy helmets with lots of wires going to our computer that substitutes our real life. VIRTUAL SEX!!! NO MORE GOING OUT AND GETTING TO KNOW CHICAS!

I think it's getting gradually worse and since all of that is nurture and not nature I am afraid of having children. I saw how it runs with my sister. so fucking many divorces, so much aggression, hell those 12 year olds drink alcohol in school to be "the cool and nasty kid everyone talks about". Homework? nooo way... MSN 24/7.
Wearing make-up like chinese carnival masks. So many youngsters leave grammar school (your only real option here), at 4th grade, to get shitty but easier education. Cell phone bills you won't fucking believe it!
No learning, going out everyday, returning at 9-10pm (I am speaking of 13 year olds here).

No fucking music taste anymore, just fucking techno, no independant clothing, just from head to heel in dolce and gafucka, gucci, ralph lauren BOLLOCKS.

it's an infestation and it will affect your KID TOO!
Progress is a natural process, you can't stop it. We shall always strive to make things better.

If it's all "good" progress is hard to say. Yes, many things make our lifes more comfortable, on the other hand we tactically destroy mother nature and our climatic with pollution and exhaust gases. Cancer rates are growing with unbelieveable speed.

I don't say "huurrr, back to stoneage", but I say not everything that's new must be improvement SEEN IN TOTAL.

Given we've been sliding down a moral vacume for about 500 years now either we're the worst thing the World has ever seen and the Victorians were saints or people just like to moan (I know I do).

However, I do think that there is a dangerous sub section of teenagers who for one reason or other just dont seem to give a fuck about anything and are deeply deeply anti-social. And our effort to criminalise everyone under the age of 30 isnt helping.

It's always been the same though hasn't it? Teddy boys, hippies, punks, ravers, and now chavs. Not sure about before the war.

Women smoking, disrespect for elders, long hair, lounging about all day doing nothing - to say nothing of the pits of depravity which played music such as jazz and were open all night.

Nothing ever changes - old people think young people are a wasters (except for the ones they know) and young people think old people are out to stop them having fun (grandparents exempt)

I suppose so, and I know its traditional for old people like me to complain about kids, but I do think there is something different in the generation who are about 16 now. There are a sub-group who seem so angry, I dont know, I just dont see any future for them.

i think your right bb, i've noticed it myself and it's only getting worse, i see 7-8 year olds spewing foul-mouthed abuse at each other on a regular basis, it's like it's cool to be a violent fucking twat these days, on the bus all they chat is about is shite ("yer and she came to my manor and i said oi what the fuck i'll break your fucking skull and she was like yeah fuck fuck fuck".....and so on, from kids!) and they intimidate everyone else, racism, death threats you name it it's pretty horrific, i have to say i don't see any hope for these kids cos i dread to think what they'll be like when they hit adulthood.

But there's always been this sub-group. It isn't new that there this bunch of feral youth who not only have no future, but don't particually want one.

The majority of young people who hang round corners swearing and drinking, will in twenty years time, be grumbling about young people and struggling to pay mortgages.

Yep. Because they'll realise how pointless it actually was to them.

    It wasn't pointless for me.

It was a way to socialise with my mates and have fun. Better than having square eyes that's for sure.
