have you used, and how did you find, the following books?

Clinical Medicine - Kumar and Clark

Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine

Clinically Oriented Anatomy - Moore

and can you suggest any outstanding texts?

I really wouldn't go for any of the clinic textbooks just yet until you hit clinicals (once a week interviewing patients on a hospital ward doesn't count :p).

    Functional Histology by Wheater

Essentials of Human Embryology by Larsen

Pharmacology by Rang, Dale, Ritter and Moore

Medical biochemistry by Baynes and someone else beginning with D.

Human Physiology by Pocock and Richards

Human Anatomy by Harris, Whitmore, Wilson et al

Notes on Medical Microbiology by McCartney et al

Have you got a reading list yet? Might be a good idea to go with what St Georges teach with, the additional ones I have were written for UCL medics. And I would resist the temptation to buy anything until Fresher's starts, as a lot of the big bookshops give some good discounts to students (which helps when you first spend £250).
