Seeker you really, really get on my tits. Can't you just keep out of threads if you have nothing useful to contribute and only stupid questions to ask?

And, can't you learn which is the apostrophe key on your keyboard? It`s not this, it's this. Phew, feel so much better for having got that out of my system.

    Intellectual property, carry on...

If the letters on a keyboard gets you so emotional I really think your neurosis is worse than I first imagined. That's your problem, it`s not mine.

    So back to I P ......

Well its not my flat, its rented, but that makes it "mine" while I pay my rent.

A little progress,I think. Think it through as you suggest.

Why do you pay someone rent money ?

The law and the violence that comes with it ?

Or is it because someone is providing you with a service that you value ?

    Maybe it`s both ?

    Maybe it`s neither ?

    RELEVANCY ?????

Try asking yourself those questions in a quiet moment and try to answer. There may be less chance of you dismissing them with childish insults if you ask yourself :chin:

    You are mentally retarded.

Look, seeker, you're not the only one to realise that rent, law, the state etc are all social arrangements backed by force. I got that one nailed years ago. So fucking what? Unless you're a one man revolution, you still have to pay rent and taxes (actually I suspect you still live at your mum's).

Now, got anything sensible to add? No? Piss off then.

It's a service you value, if you don't pay, you don't get to live. It's pretty simple. Where do you see the problem, humans have been like this for thousands of years, it's hardly some new phenomenon.

    That`s a bit of a misnomer,isn`t it ?

eta: also, in the article, its about making yourself anonymous on the internet - and whether thats something that should be possible or not. Should people have the right not to reveal who they are? ID Card kinda thing going on there too!

Of course, but is this likely to happen when the thumbscrews come out to play? Most anonymous servers that I have come across tell you that they will reveal all when the "authorities" demand.

this argument has gone over my head with talk about rent and things  where did that come from? ANYWAY, back to the original point.

Is it better to have a) the inventors 'intellectual' rights protected to something or b) take the science / information and spread it around to everyone so that everyone can benefit from it c) some other thing.

intellectual property, especially in regards to patenting and software is a bit stifling of innovation, especially with patent trolls existing and the speed software development

copyrighting software code and trademarking well known characters is fine, as it encourages people to write more efficient code, and use their own ways of making things stand out, but patenting a generic term, for example did you know someone owns a patent to the term 'next generation network' or you can own a patent to a visual end result of what you see on the screen, so if someone thinks of something similar using a different software code which is less memory intensive and has les chance of failing, they might still be owing money to someone for somethingthey never stole
