ETA: total eclipse of the heart!
coldplay - warning sign
Dire straits - so far away
DMX - slippin (quite different even if your not into hip hop)
Eric clapton - tears in heaven
Oasis - don't go away
Haddaway - I miss you
The smiths - that joke isn't funny anymore
Not all clinically depressing songs but all have there own reasons as to why there in my list.
Gets me thinking about my ex everytime
Shivers - The Wedding Present
Don't Touch That Dial - Cinerama
Anything by coldplay - Soo unbeliveably depressing.
no-one will shoot you, all songs can be personal for different reasons.
I actually like the song but it makes me feel a bit sad cos it reminds me of feeling sad, if that makes sense.
I'd also like to add 'daydream believer' just because :yuck:
i still love it though.
Beck - The whole of the album 'Sea Change' The whole thing is about getting dumped.
Mew - shespider is my favourite at the moment, but there are others, such as "coffe break", "snowflake", "then i run". Basically, all songs by mew are depressing and very melancholic.
Here's a link if you want to listen to shespider... youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nt04vcLZe8
ETA: man, it sounds a lot worse there. He sounds like a wuss.
I can appreciate catharsis and have had many an emotional experience listening to music because I am weird The ones that spring to mind are:
Alive by Pearl Jam
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Eric Bogle/The Pogues/Joan Baez though The Pogues version always gets me the most and I do believe it is the most depressing song in the history of the world.
Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings (at least I think that's what it is, the Platoon music, anyway)
Cold, Cold Ground and Georgia Lee - Tom Waits
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, and also The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face are both killers.
Baby Mine - Betty Noyes (it's easier to understand if I mention the name Dumbo :crying: )
Evaporated, Brick and Still Fighting it by Ben Folds [Five]
She Talks to Angels - The Black Crowes (the voice does it)
And of course, The Chalet Lines by Belle & Sebastian which shouldn't even really be allowed to exist under health laws.
And of course Harry Nilsson's You're Breaking My Heart... only kidding, it's the best break up song ever (not that this thread is about break ups or anything...)
Most of the time I can listen to it and not be affected. But sometimes it just catches me in 'that' place and takes the air out of my sails.
elliott smith - twilight
jeff buckley's version of hallellujah
joy division - isolation
elliott smith - the biggest lie
the beach boys - you still believe in me
