What should i do? (Bit Long)

I am a graduate of University with a degree in political studies.
I have worked for a year, since graduating, for my family, in the family business. Basically after a year working for my family in the family business and knowing there is no future for me in it after another few months or another year, i need to seriously find a future career for myself.

I have a degree, that doesnt mean much though when applying for jobs. I have a years worth of experience doing everything you can imagine, Book keeping, accounts, banking, deliveries, van driving...you name it i have dabbled in it in the past year.

So what can i now do with my life?

I could apply to a stock brokers here in Leeds, where i live, that i could work at, but i am not sure i want to do that at all. 9-5 in an office all year round in a suit, on the phone and computer all the time!

I could apply in June to be a Chartered accountant. I have a degree already so it would only take me 4 years not 7 to get there and it really depends on whether i get taken on by any of the major accounting firms here in Leeds, of which their are 4 very big and 2 small but significant firms.

Other then that, neither of which wins me over, i have no idea what i want to do or what i could do. I dont especially want to leave Leeds, because i love it here mostly, my friends and family are here. But i just have no idea what to apply for or where to aim at in terms of a career for myself.

I know it is more of a rant of frustration then a real employment thread, but its bothering me greatly! :(

alternatively, forget about a 9-5 career, buy some real estate and be your own boss ;)

good luck then, i'll just say it's not as impossible for first time buyers as everyone makes out, there are various ways of getting a house without saving for a deposit for example, its certainly not easy and the way i'm doing is isn't risk free by any means but i'm not one of those mugs looking for 9-5 security and a cushty pension at the end, i actually want to have a life.....

Are you planning to lease out or rent out or sell off at a profit or is it for yourself?

Sophia...you're a feminist right? Is it a requirement of Feminism to be a marxist or socialist or ultra-liberal???
Just i started reading this blog for first time other day and its by this ultra-feminist who goes on at length about her politics and i wondered.

well the plan is to buy a house BMV that also needs a bit of work, do the work, get the house revalued and remortgaged, then can take the extra equity out as cash without getting taxed on capital gains because technically it's a debt and not a profit, it's quite clever actually, then i can use that money to finance the next house, and rent out the first house on an HMO basis to cover the mortgage and some on top.......the trick with real estate is that you make the money when you buy the house not when you sell it, you see all these stupid property shows where people go over their time and money budgets trying to do up houses to turn a little profit only to get shafted by the taxman in the end, when in reality they can't add much value because they bought the property near or at market value in the first place :banghead:

Interesting! My family are looking at using some money we have inherited to buy up 4 cheaper houses to do up and lease off for rent. Need to investigate it all more though first.
