What car would you recommend for my dad? He's after a good reliable one, big enough to fit 4/5 people in and for around £8000. The last 3 he's had have been Citroens but he's after something different.
ETA: we're all adults that'll be in the car.

Mazda 6s are nice, but tbh dont have a clue how much they are. i think astras and vectras are ok too. i do like the VW Passat.
how often will you all be in the car? coz dad has a VW Golf gti, and i like it (he doesnt but thats irrellevent! :p) and there is plenty of room to have 4 in all the time, but i think 5 ould be a squish!

Well my dad uses it Monday-Friday to travel to and from work and there's usually 4/5 of us in at least one day at the weekend.

hmmm i dont really know, if he is mainly using it then its hat he feels comfortable in, and tbh you should suggest some of the smaller cars (ie golfs/polos) as if there is only one day when there could be five, its not too much of a squash, as after all they are designed for 5 people.

I'll show him some of the suggestions and see what he says. I'll let you know.

Oh we take at least one holiday a year which he drives and there's 5 of us in the car and we'll need a boot big enough for a few medium sized suitcases and a couple of bags.

    VW Passat

There's a few estates there, which would probably be more apt for 5 adults and their luggage. :)
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    Yeah definitely a Passat!!!

It'll have to be a Honda for reliability or if he wants a more complete package then go for something VAG(VW Audi Group).

I'd recommend an estate for luggage space or possibly a 7-seater like a Ford Galaxy or Vauxhall Zafira where you can remove the 3rd row of seats for extra boot space.

Don't touch anything thats ex-rental - guaranteed to have been raped by a load of morons.
Paticularly watch for stuff thats 'nearly new' - 6-9 months old with 10k mileage on it - nearly always ex.rental - hence fucked.

Volvo V40 - My Dad's got one and it's gorgeous. Causes a stir and fits 5 adults :thumb:

    Don't buy a Kia either. They're shit.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Do not buy the Audi's for space, coz there is none at the back!!
    Same with Civic.

The Accord is fine, and the Volvo, although I am not sure what kind of a stir that Volvo causes (;)), If you don't mind a people carrier, than Zafira is good, cheap to run , well equipped, the Galaxy is nice, esp the 2.5 V6 one, but it's driving position is rubbish and it's unstable when cornering.
You can also get a nice Grand Cherokee for that money, which woould be my personal choice actually.
