Do you know the difference between police, ambulance and fire engine noises when they are going down the road?

Just curious :D

No, but I can tell the difference when I see the police car, ambulance, or fire engine

I can. Since childhood i've had a fascination with that kind of thing.

Sometimes I can. Most times though I only realize what it is when I hear the loud honk that snaps me out of the daze and I look in my rear view mirror to see a pissed off looking amublance/fire/police person as they swerve to get around me.

    Yeah.

I find it fairly easy tbh.

But police cars have like three different sirens (they demonstrated them to me on the only occassion that I have been driven in one).

    Yes.

Yeah I can because the ambulance one is pretty distinguishable, and I rarely hear the fire brigade one.
Plus if you listen carefully and use logic, you'll find that the police car will travel faster and therefore the siren sound will travel faster too.

I know that they're all different, but I can never for the life of me remember which one goes with which ;(. I know the ambulance one though I think, the other two are just, eh?

Over here the cop cars aren't all the marked cars with different sirens they're mostly the same

you dont need sirens you can hear the jeeps a mile off anyway

I know they're different, but I can't tell which is which when I hear them.

    yes

    Nope.

I've always left the scene of my dastardly crimes before the emergency services respond.

I can virtually always tell the difference, but I cant explain why they are different.

I was talking to someone about this the other day, strangely enough.

I think I know the difference, though I've been wrong in the past. I definitely know what an ambulance's siren sounds like.

    not a clue

mind you, usually when i hear a siren i'm stood there going 'oooo, which way do you think it's gonna come' cos that is another thing i can't tell

    stupid sound everywhere sirens :eek2:

What do you mean you can't explain? It's simply a different melody.

I like to get behind emergency vehicles on my way to work so I can catch all the green lights :p

i can tell the difference but that is because i am special!

when my little brother was about 4, he loved emergency vehicles. one day i said to him "what to fire engines do?" to which he replied with a beatiful nee naa noise. so then i asked, "what do ambulances do?" and i got a woo woo woo woo noise blurted back. then finally i asked, "what do police cars do?" he paused for a moment and said "go fast!"

    bless his little cotton knickers!
