    It's one of the greatest unanswered questions :chin:

    It was rumoured to be Damon Hill I think but then I remember him being on to do the lap thing once.

    At first I thought it was Damon Hill, but after looking at his general demenour and walk and height i decided it's not.
    He's not a current or an ex formula 1 driver because all the F1 drivers take a different line than Stig around the track.
    I reckon a former BTCC driver...

    I reckon it has to be an ex formula 1 driver. After all, who else would be qualified to drive an F1 car like he has done a number of times.

    It was revealed in the Daily Mail once, i remember reading it, however i can't remember the name, or if it was true.

    I just found this "In January 2006, the Daily Express confirmed that the identity of The Stig is former Formula 1 driver Julian Bailey"

    I heard it was the Tiff guy who used to co-present on the old Top Gear, because he's done some racing before. But who knows :chin:

    Yep. Came up straight away on Google, lots of sites saying the same things... I wont say any information if you don't want to know though :)

    I can look because I have no idea who any of these people are, so it doesn't ruin it for me :)

    my little bro once told me the stig was dead....he died on the track!!
    this school yard rumours could push someone over the edge :p

    but i have looked before and like nikki, i didnt have a sausage who he is so meant nothing, i like to think of him as a mini super hero!

    Stig at one point supposedly died after driving off an aircraft carrier.

    Originally i thought it was Nigel Mansell, but then he went on the show to set the highest time and didnt beat the Stig time, despite 3 days practice and tour of the track both from his Jet and his Helicopter.

    Then i thought it was Damon Hill, but clearly he is too tall to be The Stig...so i settled on it been Jonny Herbert...but who knows...

    I don't think it would be Tiff Needell. He had a falling out with the BBC and is now on Channel Five
