THIS MORE THAN LIKELY SOUNDS LIKE I'M A PRETTY SAD GUY BUT HERE I GO.

I SPLIT UP WITH MY GIRLFRIEND OF 4 YEARS ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, WE HAVE A GREAT FRIENDSHIP, LOADS IN COMMON BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STAY TOGETHER .
I DON'T WANT TO GET BACK TOGETHER BUT I MISS HER SO MUCH , I MISS THE CLOSENESS THAT WE HAD , I MISS ALWAYS HAVING HER TO TALK TO, SEEING HER SMILE AND THE WARMTH OF THOSE COMFORTABLE SILENCES.
I KNOW IT ALL PROBABLY SOUNDS PRETTY PATHETIC BUT APART FROM FIONA(MY EX)AND BUSINESS COLLEGES I DONT REALLY KNOW ANYONE IN EDINBURGH TO REALLY TALK TOO AND I QUESS I AM TRYING THE INTERNET TO TRY AND GET SOME IMPARTIAL ADVICE.

HERES HOPING YOU WRITE BACK

scotty, i really do feel sorry for you. but no matter how bleak the situation may seem, there is hope for you yet. for starters, you've already accepted that you dont want to gte back with her - this is good going. now, you can start to move on.

i cant imagine how hard it must be for you to be without someone who has been with you for four years, but you say you are still good friends. is this one of these "we're really good friends, but i cant bare to see her because the memory breaks my heart" kinda things? even if it is, i'd advise spending time with her, because its very likely that she is feeling equally lost without you.

what you really need to do (this is what a friend of mine did after breaking up with her boyfriend of two and a half years) is to just get out there, and enjoy being single all over again. its such a novelty after years of being part of a couple. you can go out and get drunk with all your mates, and you never have to explain your actions to your girlfriend. this may seem petty (it is) but its the best way to move on. yes, look back to the time you had together with fondness - that kinda relationship is pretty rare. but also look to the future, try new things, meet new people, throw parties (maybe not!).

dammit, its pretty difficult to advise you on this one. i guess what i'm trying to say is that you need to make the most of being young, free and single. you will never find another girl quite like fiona, but you will find someone else totally different, and have a fantastic time in a completely different type of relationship. but dont rush in to it, enjoy yourself, and things will start to happen.

    good luck!

Stop the capital letters, sunshine. Or I'll be up there to sort you out.

i dont see any reason why u and ur ex cant be good mates, it worked for me. If your break up was on good terms then whats stoping u from being friends.

You don't say why the 2 of you broke up, but I can only assume it was due to the excessive use of capital letters when texting or emailing her.

This can be hard for a woman to get past. But, its still normal feelings, I have had girlfriends for less time, and still missed them after more than 2 months!

Things will get better. Try and make new friends etc. Don't try and find a girlfriend straight away.

    Best of luck.

Hello there scotty and all other saddened people out there.
I know exactly what you mean about missing normal things: waking up with people, cooking together, even just sitting around with someone special is difficult to lose. I broke up with my last boyfriend just under two months ago, and it's fairly safe to say that despite going on a few dates, I am very much not over him. He might possibly be coming to see me this weekend and I'm quite confused as to where I'm going to let the encounter go, but I've organised all sorts of 'friendly' rather than luvvie-duvvie activities to keep our minds off anything else. I think he's been far more efficient at forgetting about me though, I haven't talked to him too much about it, but he seemed to indicate that he wasn't that upset, despite not sleeping properly and drinking like a fish, which he never did before. Like you, I don't think I could get back with him... I don't want to be hurt like this ever again, but surely, you shouldn't limit your life just because of one bad experience? Anyhow. I'm around if you want to mail me.
    ttfn

    Oh, please.
