Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
passing by a newsnight interview with tony blair, i was made aware of the heavy spin employed by the top politicians. i got thinking about bill clinton (who is was and will be the best us president in my life time) and what happened with him after his acquittal from the senate.

i always thought he was impeached for lieing to the senate and not for sleeping around - wtf.

Bill Clinton was not impeached. There was a failed attempt to impeach him, he served his two terms in office (and would of won the next election if he could of run) and was then replaced as US President by Bush, atleast thats what I always thought

Clinton was far from perfect but if I had to choose I'd rather have a man who's most remembered for cheating on his wife than a man whose legacy is a string of illegal wars, hundreds of thousands of deaths, a far more dangerous and unstable world, a worsening environment and the introduction of nazi-style Concentration Camps by so-called democratic free nations.

Next to George W. Fucking Bush, Clinton looks like a cross between Ghandi and Jesus.

Clinton was impreached! Been impeached doesnt mean you have to be removed from office, you can be impreached and serve your full terms out, as Clinton did.

Certainly the best President of the modern time.

The House has the power of initiating impeachment proceedings by passing the articles of impeachment with which a president will be charged at their trial in the Senate - in 1998 the House approved two charges of impeachment against President Clinton. The Senate as happened in 1998 with Clinton had the power of trying the case of impeachment, a 2/3 majority is required to remove the individual from office. Clinton was acquitted by the Senate. The Senate rejected 55-45 the first article of impeachment charging Clinton with lying under oath in his grand jury testimony. The second article which alleged Clinton obstructed justice in attempting to cover up his affair with Lewinsky, failed on a 50-50 vote. Hence he served the remainder of his second term.

charisma, foriegn diplomacy, ability to get on with others, the way he made america feel, how i felt safe with clinton in power. not that i don't feel unsafe now tho with bush and rice, i think rice is exceptional. bush had an unprovoked attack on his country. don't detract from 'the base' attacking america.

Bill clintons only failure was not going into a war when he should have done to prevent Genocide in the Balkans.

Apart from that he was an exceptionally brilliant President of America.

He cut American debt to nothing, he improved public sectors, he was charismatic and very much a "Kennedy type" President. He was also unbeatable in elections and would have crushed Bush or any other Republican with so much ease not even a conspiracy to rig the elction would have worked against him.

All in all, if he shagged around so what...Kennedy shagged around all day long too, Roosevelt was obsessesed with power and lied about his health, Jefferson kept slaves, Washington sold his teeth for booze money, and so on.

good points but I dont think he would have won the 2000 election, what with his sex scandels and all, thats why Al Gore tried to distence him self from Bill.

He wouldn't have been allowed to run anyway- remember the 2 terms rule.

Yes Aladdin we all know the two terms rule, i was pointing out his popularity was so overwhelming he would have won a third term if he could have run again.

And the sex scandles in the end did nothing to hinder the Clinton popularity movement. Bush would have been CRUSHED and Gore should have tried to make himself closer to Clinton not distance himself!

There was an agenda at work to get him out anyway. That ultra right wing twat who was put in charge of investigating the Lewinsky affair was a joke.

The report he produced practically read like a cheap porn novel. Entertaining though :D

It's a pity Thanatos doesn't hang around any more. He didn't like Clinton much and would have been here like a shot to tell us what a 'traitor' he was to his country :D

The Ken Starr report was an amusing read and yet, no matter what effort was in place to force Clinton out, he beat them all and was by far the best President of the past few decades!

Bring on Hilary Clinton next... or the camp cowboy John Edwards!

Bring just about anyone as far as I'm concerned.

If it came to be a vote between the Paedophile Party and the Republicans, I'd support the kiddie fiddlers.
