I was under the impression that it would be a 24/7 thing. Probably not, now that I think about it, from a moderation perspective :chin:

It could be in a way, and just moderated along the normal times? The boards are 24/7 but mods only work 9-5 or whatever. Another issue is who's going to do the moderating? JimV / Helen have to moderate the boards, as well as doing their journalism / fixing thesite computers / saving the world type thing.

Can we have a pub quiz though?

The fact is moderating chat is a lot more intensive, and there is no record of what has gone on, which means a moderator is going to need to be in the room.

For now we'll be playing around with chat during working hours as we'll need to get the techies to turn it on and off, but once it's out of beta we'll be looking at longer and different time slots.

The chatroom is cool, but not sure i see the point of it...

- People who want to chat to each other do already via msn, irc, yahoo..
- The system doesn't use our account in here so you can login with someone else username and chat acting as them...
- The amount of work for the mods will increase...
- The chat won't even be open 24/7...

I agree to an extent- but as Jim already mentioned, one of the main things we are looking to have is organised web chats with experts.

Unfortunately not, but we will be alternating the times we keep it open - when it's out of beta evenings will be an option which will probably suit more people.
