Is it ever acceptable to finish someone over the phone?

  It is if you can't be bothered to go and see them.
  Better for the environment that wasting petrol or whatever to tell someone what you could tell them over the phone.

  I dont see anything wrong with breaking up by letter. At least then you can think through exactly what it is you want to say. If it's just a note saying 'you're dumped' then thats as bad as text, but if it's a proper letter, then I think there's nothing wrong with it, especially if you're one of those that finds it difficult to speak under pressure. I've been broken up with before, where the girl was pacing, then just spat the words out, then paced some more and walked off for a minute, then i went and sat down with her, and she couldn't speak to me.
  
  But, just opinion.
