Drinking...

Why do people drink (or take drugs?)? I've never understood what actually makes people do it in the first play. Ok - once you're doing it - you enjoy it. But what about that first time? Is it peer-pressure, feeling depressed? I don't know....thoughts please...

Same reason people take up skiing or bungie jumping.

True.
I took it up to experience what it was like. I enjoyed it. I carried on.
Why do people try new foods?
until you wake up in the morning. but that's all part of it.
I like drinking for the added social sense. A beer for football with some people or a vodka with the girls and a movie.
I also enjoy the false sens of happiness I get after a few after a long day at work... or long day... or boring tv shows in the morning.

i remember you having your first hit when you were three ...
To a certain extent yes, it is to escape - to relax and forget your responsibilities just for a while.

That's it, pretty much.
Obviously if you go more indepth and ask questions like "why do people drink the amounts they do?", "why can't some people have an active [social] life without alcohol?" and then you'd start to get answers about self-medication, morale-boosting effects (at least in the short term) etc.
But for the majority of people it's just a good bit of craic; enhancing their enjoyment of whatever it is they're doing at the time. Be it sitting around chewing the fat with mates, out dancing your head off, watching footy or just lazing around in the garden. It's all good :thumb:
