So, it seems the position of the terrorists in Chechnya is growing ever weaker. Hope for peace for the area could be a possiblity at last.
Sadulayev was killed on Saturday by the regional police force in his hometown of Argun, 15km east of the provincial capital Grozny, the press service of Moscow-backed Chechen prime minister Ramzan Kadyrov said.

The Interfax news agency quoted Muslim Khuchiyev, a minister in the local administration, as saying that police, acting on a tip, tracked down Sadulayev and killed him when he resisted.

Further details on the operation were not immediately available.

Sadulayev had succeeded Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov, who was killed by Russian forces last year.

Thoughts?

it said that Sadulayev was the successor of a different leader who was killed by the Russians. I think that demonstrates that killing their leaders doesn't seem to destabilize them as much as the article makes it seem.

Aye, but look at it... the rebels in Chechnya used to be alot more powerful than they are now. Yes, their will be another leader... but killing them off time after time will surley weaken the movement.

Imagine if President after President in the US was assasinated yearly... surley it'd destabalise the country? Much like the movement will be destabilised.

Plus they Russians do appear to have established a fair amount of control in the reigon (Which is part of Russia, despite the terrorists claims).

its just like al-zarqawi just because you've got the leader just means that another nut will step up, yes its a step in the right direction but the way to stop is to offer alternatives and incentives that stop recruitment, so pale into insignificances!

Yeah sadly as the past few years have taught us I don't think much will change. Shame really as it's the only blot on Putin's presidency. The problems are much deeper rooted though ie. the Russian army, bar the Mig 29, the best damn plane in the world, is chronically underfunded and if they want to decimate Chechnya then they should give the army some fucking money.

Problem is also that they have to hold on to Chechnya. If they let go or cede independence, Russia is finished as all the quasi-autonomous places in Russia will follow suit and there will be nothing the Kremlin can do. That and China will annexe Siberia. Sneaky Chinese.

    Always the Chinese dude.

To be honest... Putin did alot for the situation in Chechnya... it has clamed down from what it was before him.

Although I suppose he did practically DESTROY it entirley. It can't go independant now... majority of the population is living on what the Russians ration out to them!
