Somlia: Islamists Capture town

Islamist militia sources in Nairobi said four people were killed and 10 to 18 were wounded.

Wednesday's assault appeared to be an attempt to deliver a final blow to the weakened regional commanders, whose control of patches of Somalia including Mogadishu for the past 15 years has taken a turn for the worse.

Residents said militia fighters linked to sharia courts had seized Jowhar airport to the west of the town, about 90km from Mogadishu.

They also entered from the south, sending residents fleeing as they attacked the town with heavy artillery and machine guns.

I love how the situation in Somalia continues to deterioirate and yet the mainstream media or the world governments do NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL to help in any way. Instead we invade contries, that whilst not exactally under great rule, are at least stable and the lives of their people liveable.

But Somlia is in choas, and nothing is done.

Also on the Subject, US-backed Somali commander defects

What, we'll leave it to the Chinese again? The fucking UN has sent the Chinese to every other bit of Africa. What are they, the UN's disposable lot?

"Fuck 'em. They're only Chinese. They're millions where they came from."

Pics of the poor sods. It seems that also bits like the Lebanon - send the Chinese! Haiti needs someone to make sure the election is fair? Chinese!

It also well establishes China to take advantage of Africa's reasources... so... when the Middle East dries up... Africa will be next for Oil... but China may have it by then. (They are also making Diplomatic moves into Africa - and South America.)

Rest assured that had Somalia happened to have massive oil reserves beneath its ground the US and the UK would be fought "evil ideology" there a long time ago.

Do people still beleive the old 'they invaded Iraq for the oil' fantasy?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Well it certainly wasn't for the weapons of mass desctruction that weren't there, the links to terrorism that didn't exist or the human right abuses the US has never cared one bit about...

Them Chinese are brilliant aren't they? They have a long term strategy for controling African resources because they can see the Middle East is locked up by the US and West. They play fair and nice and send troops under UN flags but actually gain that neccessary foothold in the region.

An d if China ever did decide open up its armed forces, no one would stop them in Africa.

Its just far too simplistic to say its just for oil, yes security of energy supply was one concern, as was big fat contracts, as was actual belief in what they were doing, as was unfinished business...... there were a lot of people involved and each had their reasons.

it's oil and a foothold in the area.
have you any idea how much energy we use in the west ...how demand is accelerating?

then we have asia ...you don't believe the american admin were sitting at home watching pipelines and highways being built connecting iran and china as a none threatening situation as regard our energy and economic situations do you?
of course the americans don't mind one bit that all the worlds resources are heading east along with the oil ...but they worry so much about human rights in iraq they'll spend billions and give of their young mens lives to free those people ....
What hell else can it be about?

I agree, but oil played a fundamental part.

If oil did not exist beneath Iraq and neighbouring countries the US would have not invaded. Not in 2003 and not in 1991.

There is a problem in the country, the international community sits on their arse again - especially NATO. Yes the UK and the US are over streched - we can't do much to help.

It is time the likes of France and Germany shown their humanitarian ways.

Well France and Germany don't have any objective with oil do they  ... so why aren't they helping?

It wasn't for oil either. As if people still say that, yes it's just as laughable as one saying the war happened because Iraq held WMd to attack the world with.

And Aladdin what do you say about China's interest in Africa for oil?

So why have they done such a poor job of protecting the oil?

There was more being pumped out under Sadam than there is now, if it was so much about oil there was a dozen much cheaper ways of getting it than this.

I'm more inclined to think the war is meant to be expensive.

    Because they can't?

Not all countries think they have the right to use force on sovereign nations without anyone's permission.

lol. because they don't want to more like. They aren't exactly giving out any signs they want to help are they?

I don't think the Americans are concerned about the current flow nearly as much as who controls the reserves.

Not to mention of course that Iraq in their hands means an extremely important logistic base from which to launch full assaults to neighbouring countries.

Many reasons. Resgime change, war on terror, WMD... I support it as it will and is the centre of fighting this evil ideology. One resgime gone... the others will follow suite... most without any military force... such as Lybia... and democracy growing in Egypt and even S.A.

They should make bigger efforts, yes.

But how does this matter when we were talking about your beloved USA?

Do you think diverting the issue or trying to suggest "other countries are bad too" makes the actions of the US any better?

    Regime change: why?

War on terror: don't make me laugh. Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism, and by going in they have made things infinitely worse, not better.

    WMD: LOL x 94,000,000,000,000,000

Evil ideology: that be the same one the Americans were supporting for decades, and are indeed supporting in countless other countries around the world. I don't hear you complaining about Uzbekistan or Saudi Arabia. I wonder why that could be...

What I am saying is.... well... you argue that the U.S and the U.K would only intervene if there was a benifit for them which you claim is oil.

Then I agre this saying that well Ok... France and Germany haven't got any oil agenda have they? (in my opinion is laughable, but anyway), so why don't they use there troops and help?
