So a twat of a "friend" used my debit card online to sign up for a porn website (whilst I was downstairs getting drinks and making food) and I found out this evening, when I noticed £20 was debited out of my account. I'm dealing with that, but doubt I'll get the money back.
So, I have two cheques floating around that I paid out, one on the 31st May and one on the 1st. Neither of which had today been taken out of my account.
Basically, when they do get taken out, I'll be £5 overdrawn, assuming one of them doesn't bounce, will it bounce? I'm hoping that they'll have been paid in late so it wont happen tomorrow and I'll have time to find some money to stick in. Unfortunately I'm in a transitional period between getting paid monthly and getting paid weekly, so I'm very skint.
If the cheques do get paid out tomorrow, what are my options? I have a classic account with Lloyds TSB. Have had it since January, and this is the first time I've risked going overdrawn. Feel like a pratt for trusting said friend, and will never leave card on my desk again. :banghead:

If not, you'll go OD and be charged lots of interest until you can back in the black.
Otherwise, if they were not guaranteed and you do not have an agreed overdraft facility, then they could well bounce.
I can arrange an overdraft online if I need to, anybody know what time online banking is updated? i.e. if the cheques are paid out of my account today, will it be updated at 9.30 or would it have been updated at midnight?
Edit - Just set up a £50 overdraft (as that was the minimum value). If I don't go over £10 overdrawn it wont cost me anything, and should be able to pay that back soon.
quite a few banks seem to these days
though doesnt explain how i get paid at about 10.30pm every thursday night
Hey i work for the Halifax i'll answer this - do you have an arranged overdraft already if so - then you will just go oevrdrawn and be charged debit interest - and on £5 that'll only be about 5p for the month. But if you dont have an overdraft facility on the account your in trouble because Lloyds will charge you for your banking error- eg writing a cheque without the funds - so i would go in and make sure that you actually have an overdraft facility active on the account.
Secondly - when you write a cheque the person you give it to has 6 months to bank it after that it it invalid so they can potentially leave it until the six months and you might have foprgotten all about it and it will come out of your account. Once banked the funds usually take 3 working days to clear from your accoung into theirs but some accounts are 6 days - depends where they bank and what type of account it is -
Hope this helps!:)
