Hard tops

I know the weather gets cold over there... so how do hard tops handle? I've always heard storiers of hard top, snap on cars being horrible winter cars as they get cold easily, but everybody that tells me that has never had one, so any experiences?

What type of car are you on about? Post a pic.

I think this car sums up Britishness. It's very much similar to the British tradition of getting the socks and sandals out at the slightest hint of sunshine.

generally I don't think there's a problem with hard top convertables. Normally a convertable has massively over-powered heating and/or heated seats to counteract any cold from driving with the top down.

Unfortunately though a semi-common issue is leakage during rain. My friend at work has been trying to get his smart roadster fixed for ages, though that doesn't really count.

Are you sure you don't mean soft tops?

    She does, I'm sure ;).

Soft-tops don't tend to be all that bad. They leak a bit during heavy rain. When it's cold, it makes no odds whether you're in a soft-top or not - even with a hard roof attachment. You'll be cold until the heater starts providing you with hot air :).

Hard tops are like soft tops in that they are concertible into a topless car but instead of a soft top they have a hard shell thing that you can remove and put in your garage when you don't want to have it on the car. They are't that popular though. I've heard stories of them leaking and being drafty around the seal (where they attach to the car) but you get the same with some soft top cars.

I think part of the problem is they're usually pretty expensive cars and if they have a solid hard roof they usually take up all the boot space.

 Or people put the top in the garage which is a problem if it starts to rain and the shell bit tends to get knocked around a fair bit so often ends up with minor dents and damaged paintwork. My mother researched getting one a while back but concluded that a soft top is by far the better option. Although someone I know has a soft top BMW which leaked after a couple of years (but BMW gave her a free upgrade or something to apologise).

I loved my convertable. I miss it.

Cant believe BMW soft tops leak!!!!
    OMG!
My 13year old Ford Escort never leaked!!! Only when it rained and you put the window down, because theres no groove on the roof to channel it away from dripping down off the sides.
