  I'm with several other comments - the beach would be lovely. Walking along the shore, hand in hand as the sun sets.. To me, that would be ideal, but without the going-down-on-one-knee bit (I'm another girl that isn't all for that) - then just turn to her, look her in the eye and ask her to marry you.
  
  But, saying that, absolutely any way of asking is special. This is one of those occasions where it really is the thought that counts.

  I got proposed to while we were snuggling on the sofa, and chilling to romantic music with a glass of wine. No down on one knee thing at all, which i was glad about for some reason.

  ha thanks everyone, I'll let you know how it goes in a week or two, I asked her dad today, I knew he'd say obviously cos we already got a kid and I get him on with great but I got lots of brownie points for doing it muwahahah#

  are you sure thats the sort of jewellery she likes before spending a mint on something liek that thats custom made.
  Only saying because a lot of people dont like yellow gold these days. I think that ring looks a bit old fashioned. A bit 80s.

  personally i think gold is a bit outdated, i think white gold looks better with diamonds
  i don't think i'd like to get proposed to on one knee, i'd like it to be a bit more different
  
  but if she's quite traditional then go for it

  Well she definitely doesn't like white gold on her! She only likes yellow gold, I can see what you mean about the ring being slightly dated looking maybe, I will keep looking but I do want something that style as I know she just wants a nice simple solitaire ring!
  
  I am trying to get the cash together for a big half carat one but it depends because I know she wants a holiday and I want to go to Dominican Republic hehe!

  By the way my girlfriend is half african/asian so she is tanned all year round!

  If you want a solitaire that looks a bit more contemporary try looking for a different cut on the diamond, something like a princess cut perhaps - like this.

  Why not go somewhere really beautiful (that shouldnt be to difficult in Wales) and have a picnic while watching the sun set on a warm summers day and propose to her. Very romantic

  yup. especially the slightly lighter (more expensive looking!) yellow colour like in miffy's post.
  
  yellow gold that's too dark and brassy just screams lizzy duke no matter how posh it is.

  You know her better than anyone so I'm sure anything you pick for her she will just love. In any case the ring would be the least important thing to me if someone had just proposed, it could be a ring pull for all I'd care.

  Thanks everyone! She was on my case about getting engaged, she brings it up every now and again so if she says no now it'll be a proper kick in the nuts! haha
  
  I did consider the princess cut as I do think it looks a bit more different and stylish, what were everyones thoughts on it?
