The english arent bad, believe me we have to stay next to them!!(only kiddin )

Its the media that make the english out to be bad and there rather poor performances of there supporters at world cup football matches makes the english out to be bad as well. That doesnt mean that every single one of them are the same, I know plenty of people from england and they are cool and think they are far superior to everyone else.

If any country is to blame for thinking they are great it is Americans, you think your that great that you invented everything(when they have invented nothing good, except fot the mosfet transistor!!) and that you are far superior and as goes for armies, the Americans cant say shit, the yanks like to kill people on there own god damn side or another country in there side!!!!!!

And who were one of the IRA's biggest supporters giving money........Hmmmmmmm let me think would it be AMERICA! They only stopped until the world trade center!!

Personally I think the yanks should but out of our problem over hear and let the brits and irish sort it out(mind you were not doing a great job though)and maybe you can stick with trying to sort out israel!!

But am not saying that everyone in the US is like this, theres about 0.0009% of yous that arent big headed and dont think I that I hate america I have been there 9 times and love the country.(just the people I cant stand!! )

Another terrific programme tonight, this time on CH4. Three cheers for objectivity...

I missed the film tonight MOK but I can imagine it was in the same vein as the others.

I caught the end of the debate afterwards..Maybe you might be able to help me on that one...Any idea why the studio was covered in barbed wire? Totally bizarre.

haven't seen it yet (Videoed it while I went to Pub Quiz) but I did catch a couple of bits on S4C late lastnight and I have to agree it did seem to be a more objective account. Will be interested to see the debate.
Bit stupid the barbed wire thing, but I work in TV and producers can have some rediculous ideas without realising how offensive they can be.

Hopefully watching it tonight will give me a bit of a wider view of the events, particularly as it starts in 69 and is written from 100's of accounts from ALL sides.

True enough. The English are a meglomaniac race intent to "save" the world. Whether the rest of the world likes it or not.

The Americans may be guilty of many of the same things, but the one thing they aren't guilty of is hiding it.

As for what about the English I hate?
(Surely you only mean SOME English people?).
Squinty

Those who can't see beyond their noses, and claim to have changed when everything they say, do and write shows that they still consider themselves better suited to make decisions for the rest of the world than those people are to make decisions for themselves. Whowhere, you qualify.

What do I like about some of the English?

Those who do the job they need to do, and don't stick their nose where it doesn't belong. Those that are willing to admit fault when it is there, and don't seem set on telling the world what is good for it. I'm fairly sure that WillyPete and perhaps Kermit fall into that group.

Thanatos and Diesel have attacked some of you for how you choose to live. I don't. Nor do I care. You choose how you want to live, so you live that way. What I object to is the efforts to force other people to live in the same way, by the same laws, under the same systems. Historically, that effort has been by force. In my lifetime, as Britain has become less and less capable of exerting force, I have seen the efforts become more and more of an attitude of moral supremacy. The "ugly Briton" is alive and abroad in larger numbers than the "ugly American".

My adopted homeland is as far from America as it is possible to get. The British and Americans that I see are tourists, backpackers, English teachers. The same sort that most of the world sees. And it is not a sight to be proud of. If these people are not representative of the English, then the English need to make an effort to have themselves represented more appropriately.

Sorry I was actually being sarcastic.

The only bad guys were the Brits again...

I guess it is difficult to portray several years events into an hour, but it does help if you don't start with an agenda. Although this programme started with the 1968/69 riots and mentioned that this had started before the troops arrived, it didn't explain that the troops went in to defend the catholics...it also condensed the peroid from 1968-1972 into about two minutes, and didn't mention anything after 1972. Of course they would then have to show the IRA in a bad light...anyone remember Omagh, Enniskillen, Warrington, Harrods etc etc etc?

you really are a tosspiece stones were never thrown at five year old girls you shaft. You blame the media of twisting everything yet you dont think that might have happened in this case.
As for marching wats that got to do with anything? the problem in ireland is the IRA want a united ireland and the UVF do not. Thats what the fighting is about you fuckwit

Beat, for someone who lives in the north you are amazing blind.

If you cannot see that the persistant triumphalist marches are in anyway damaging to the prospect of peace, then you are truly a stupid person.

How do you think the Germans would feel if we staged a victory march through Berlin every May?

There are many problems in Ireland, but years of teaching children to be bigots really doesn't help. Who are two of the most vocal bigots in Ireland - Ian Paisley and Ian Paisley jnr. Says it all really.

On a lighter note, why don't we? We did win after all?

Funny enough because you dont live in germany you asshole. This is the protestants home too and they should be allowed to march. Catholics march on saint patricks and nobody says anything to them.

But marching through predominantly Catholic areas isn'y going to help things is it? And they know it. It's asking for trouble.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
there wasn't a problem with it until a few years ago when catholics wanted something else to complain about it. But both sides are that ignorant that neither will give up. I live bout 100 miles from belfast and the marching here affects no one. Protestants march the 12th of july and august and the catholics march saint patricks and there is no trouble at all
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm sure I;m not the only person who has wondered this, but why do they bother marching at all?
It doesn't gain anything, there are no evident results or changes in government policy after a march. Why do they bother?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I don't think they do it to change anything. They are celebrating the victory of the Protestant king William of Orange over the Catholics, like we celebrate Christmas or some other significabt date.

i'm sure there have been peaceful marches. However peaceful marches don't make the news so we don't see them. We only see the marches that erupt into violence.

And less of the "English tosser" remarks or I'll start on the "irish are tick" ones.

Whowhere is right, maybe we are shown a false view by the media. Surely you must admit though beat that the marches in Catholic areas cant be very enjoyable affairs. Theres no need to be saucy as well
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
i've never been to a march that there was any big problem with. Any i've been to are always peaceful. its not as if people that o to those marches hate catholics. My next door neighbour who is a catholic came to one with me. there just fun.
