What no ''Happy Birthday Ma'am'' thread?

Whatever happened to the Royalists? You all out in Windsor today? ;)

The Queen is 80 today

The only member of the Royal Family for whom I have any respect- even if I would still do away with the lot of them tomorrow if given the chance.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

    Happy Birthday Your Majesty

My dad had to go to an afternoon tea thing with the queen and was told to call her "your majesty" the first time he talked to her and "ma'am" after that. They kept shoving glasses of whisky into his hand so he wouldn't try to shake hands with her and by the time she got to him he'd had about 10 whiskys and was plastered. So he went up to her and said...

"Alright, Liz! You look nothing like your stamp!"

    *headpalm*

    ...but yea...Happy 80th Liz! :p

Apparently she asked one of my friends what he did, and he said he was working on Grange Hill, and she turned around and said, "oh dear, are they still making that dreadful programme?". I had to laugh.

I didn't know it was her birthday until I saw the front cover of the Daily Star. I'm trying to care...

Ah, stuff it. Happy birthday, your maj. :birthday:

Happy Birthday Liz, stay 20 more years! That will stick it to the revolutionary anti-royals.

I've always been puzzled by that expression. What are its origins?

Without wishing to go off topic, isn't it only for life terms (eg those with no maximum tarrif) and basically means that the crown (or nowdays her Ministers and servants) can hold you as long as they like

God save the Queen and all that.

Many happy returns of the day, QEII. :birthday:

And for you anti-monarchists, I'd still prefer a hereditary head of state to the possibility of getting a Tony Blair as president. I don't trust the great British public to choose me a suitable leader.

I think it might have more to do with with not doing much physical labour- or any other kind- and being treated like, er, royalty for their entire lives.

Cool - if she's around another 20 years, then chances are Charles will be so doddery and demented when he finally gets to the throne that'll he bring the whole institution of the monarchy crashing down...

:) .. I am sure it isn't like that. One of my dad's friends was the stable manager at Windsor and he said that most of them were really quite informal and cool ..

    A belated happy birthday Ma'am.

I heard the Queen will be going for a cruise on teh Hebridean Princess this summer. Funnily enough Hebridean Island cruises was my first choice of companies I wanted to work for when I applied to Clyde Marine. Unfortunately they had no vacancies, so now I'm stuck with Adsteam/NMM. But just think, if I had got Hebridean, I could be driving the Queen around. :thumb:

Also I heard in the Sun yesterday that the Hebridean Princess twatted into a lifeboat in Tobermory. I can only imagine the reaction if HRH had been on board with Prince Philip at the time. I suspect ex-destroyer captain Philip might have said something on the lines of "you don't want to do it like that..."

Why should we wish Mrs Saxe-Coburg (aka Windsor) happy birthday on her 80th? This family has been poncing off us for years, its time they went.
