Hey everyone, i jsut found this on the internet. It shows the devastating effects of radiation on the people around Chernobyl.
Thought it might be worth a look.

Warning: Some of these photographs may be disturbing to some people so viewer discresion is advised.

I feel that this shows just how lucky we are not be living in these sort of conditions.

    There are only accidents when:
Something happens which wasn't thought about
    Somebody doesn't follow procedures

The first one can more or less be written off if the reactor is designed well and is somewhere safe where terrorist activity is minimal. The second is harder to achieve if you are in a country where workers are paid less, and are not as well trained.

Yep but error is human (or at least we say that in french) therefor nothing guarantee you anything will go well forever and the risk are really high when it come to nuclear... there is nothing on this planet that is 100% safe...

That's not what I heard, but I believe it's universal agreement that the catastrophic failure at chernobyl was entirely due to some human moron.

The human moron pushed the control rods in too far and so the reaction was to big for the reactor to handle.

On of the girls on my environmental science A level course was affected by Chernobyl, she has terrible thyroid problems and other health problems as well.

yeh thats another part, i think there were no control rods ( slow teh reaction down ) or they went up to spec of something.
I had a book on it somewhere.

it's fucked up for sure but at least it wasn't deliberate, if you look at the pictures of deformed children/babies in vietnam after agent orange was used, they knew about the side effects before they used the stuff and still went ahead......now that's fucked up.....

There is another sad but fascinating website set up by a girl biker who rode into the exclusion zone and the town of Chernobyl and took photographs. Very compelling stuff:

    image18.3.jpg

Take the full tour here: http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter1.html

On a more positive note, scientists have just revealed that animal life in Chernobyl and the contaminated exclusion zone is at an all time high and absolutely teeming:
The exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power station is teeming with life.

As humans were evacuated from the area 20 years ago, animals moved in. Existing populations multiplied and species not seen for decades, such as the lynx and eagle owl, began to return.

There are even tantalising footprints of a bear, an animal that has not trodden this part of Ukraine for centuries.

"Animals don't seem to sense radiation and will occupy an area regardless of the radiation condition," says radioecologist Sergey Gaschak

If it happened there it could happen here as well. Humans are universally dumb.

Are people that say humans are idiots or dumb (aladdin, moonrat) also stupid themselves?
