Last I looked, absolutely nobody whatsoever had ever proposed Europe should be united as one.

Just a single currency, foreign policy, armed response, police force and a level of "government"...

Only each country would/does still have its own foreign policy, army, police and government. Not to mention borders, national integrity, identity, heritage and history.

The two things are not mutually exclusive.

    Indeed we have them.

So why do we need another level?

Please to be reading Kant, "On Perpetual Peace." After a series of bloodlettings which killed hundreds of millions in the first half of the last century alone, it was felt there was something wrong with the Westphalian state system and that trying some new ideas to keep the peace could be worth it, while there were still Europeans alive to keep it. Thus the EU was born out of the Federalist dream and theory of Kant.

Because of the same principle behind the existence of unions, guilds and associations: a group is stronger than any of its individual members, which is helpful and beneficial when it comes to business, trading etc.

So you are arguing for a union which is designed to benefit businesses?

Countries and its citizens, not businessess- though individual businessess will often also benefit.

Now we're talking. British Europe has a nice ring to it. We could put the Queen's head on Euros and make them all drive on the left hand side of the road. And put a mini union flag in the corner of their flags. That would really complement the Tricolore. :D

Well it needs a new name - The European Union just sounds so boring

As they were all once monarchies what about renaming it the United Kingdom?

    That'll do nicely.

Her Majesty's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium etc etc.
