University Funding

From what I have heard (and I must admit I have not heard a lot, I am currently looking in to it) the new government plans are to scrap the cheap loans and implement grants. The only problem being that these grants will only go to people earning no more than £10,000 a year. Now these seems a little unfair to me. I come from a family which earns more than that per year, but definatly does not earn enough to easily fund the entirity of the expense of going to university. Surely the government should not be making it any harder to fund the expense of higher education like that?

Does anyone agree? Does anyone see why the government is doing it, and can they explain it to me?

Oh, they also plan to implement a 25 year tax on graduates. They're taxing you for being clever.....

The government dont give a damn about further education. It is merely another source of revenue for them.

    Go to uni in Scotland

Why Scotland? Think you need to research that a little more, Balddog. It's not totally free there either, in spite of the propaganda.

problem is, no tuition fees only if your scottish. crap, huh? i think the whole thing is screwed up - just because my parents earn x amount, i dont get jack shit towards my tuition costs. but they have a big mortgage, a big family, two cars and all that crap to look after, so i dont see any of this extra money!!

i think uni is one of those things where you should be allowed to step out of your parents' shadow. so no tuition fees, regardless of what they earn. i think the graduate tax thing sucks, but perhaps extra tax on the highest earners (who have mostly gone to uni, but can afford an extra .25% say) should go to pay for subsidising uni. i dont really know - i sure dont have all the solutions. but it cant go on like it is, and these new proposals are just as fucked as the present situation.
