Your theory, that we should be allowed to do whatever we believe in, is called anarchy. It creates a world where racism, sexism, murder, theft, paedophilia and any other 'crime' is committed with impunity because some moron suggested that it is their 'right'.
Sometimes society dictates that something is unacceptable, this is called the will of the people. I don't always agree with them, but I would rather that is was the majority that decided.
it wasnt
sorry, but it doesnt follow that it carries a lot of importance

Don't presume that most people in the country think it's important. Even if they don't, I bett they still have a view on the issue. I believe there's enough support for rethink. If you don't think it's important why are you posting in this thread? Your obvoiusly not bothered!

my argument is that there are more important things in the world than banning fox hunting, hence why i posted in this thread to say it shouldn't be banned because it makes sod all difference anyway

It wasn't a MAJOR issue in the election and I agree that there are bigger issues, but it is an issue, otherwise we wouldn'y be discussing it here.
When faced with the economy, national health, europe, taxation etc it becomes a very poor last. But then so does littering, and we have a law which prohibits that.
I also wouldn't expect the fox to be grateful, but it WOULD make a difference to them.
It won't bring about world peace, or cure cancer, or halt globalisation or affect any of the major issues which the world faces these days, but that doesn't mean we should ignore it, or do nothing.
If it's isn't such a big issue, why fight against it, why waste your time, why not just let the ban become law?
My point exactly!

because making a law on such a topic, especially amongst those that probably do go hunting in the house of commons and lords, is a pretty hard thing to do, and can't be done overnight. the public may feel aggrieved at the fact this is being pushed whereas there are other numerous issues that need to be addressed

What a load of dribble! What you're saying is that the public want fox hunting banned but arn't going to bother pushing for it coz it takes to long. Even though the majority of the people in this country want it to be banned you reckon it should be forgotton about coz YOU don't think it's that important. That's how I see you attitude. Maybe I'm wrong so correct me.

no, i said even *if* the majority of the public did want it banned, it's not a big enough issue to push through over more important ones and this isnt my opinion - it's a fact. what's more important, some dead foxes or our economy/running of our health service/teaching levels and standards?
you made a misinterpretation of what i said, nothing more

Visit the original bunny!
I can't understand your attitude towards it.
First you say it's 'Survival of the fittest' which seems a bit lame to me.
Second you say you're not bothered and don't care. So why post!
thirdly you say it should'nt be banned coz its not important enough and therefore seem to contradict yourself because you do now seem bothered.
Sort it out!

MD seems to suffer from a predilection to appear extremely bothered about something and chuck in his 2 penny's worth, without knowing the facts, deliberately aimed to provoke a reaction.... before saying he doesnt care at all and it never interested him in the first place.
could be where his opinion on fox hunting fit in...

lots of things are cruel, more so than fox hunting. i dont see why we should make it a priority when there are other more important things to sort out.
i said there were more important things to sort out first. it is the survival of the fittest and there are more important things than mother nature taking it's course - we started out as hunters, it's a natural instinct for some to find blood sports enjoyable.
listen to what i say and it's easy.
one: there are more important things than fox hunting
two: why should it get priority when it's merely a natural instinct for some to go hunting
three: foxes aren't extinct. they're not close to it so their numbers make no difference.
four: if you think the fox suffers then think about other people in the world that suffer more

what do you want - a reaction, acceptance? if you really want to get personal is thesite the place to do it? you whinge about people emailing personal stuff all over the place - don't get personal if you don't want that to happen
for those that have no clue what's going on, i upset gfm with my opinions on a personal matter of hers and she's not happy...and she's never going to speak to me again. apart from to have sly digs on the BBS so if you're confused - that's the reason.

There is this wonderful piece of law called The Parliment Act. This allows the ELECTED chamber (the 'Commons') to force through a piece of legislation which has been rejected by the UNELECTED chamber (the 'Lords'). This ensures that 'democracy' rules by stopping an unelected group overrule 'the will of the people'.
Simple really, and used whenever necessary. Getting this legislation through the House of Lords is not an issue, if the Commons decides that the law will stand whatever objection the Lords can dream up.
MD- it is worth noting that a ban on fox hunting has been in the Labour Manifesto, therefore is WAS an election issue even if it didn't get publicity.
Each part of the manifesto is addressed when the Govt decides and they are looking at Transport, the Economy, The NHS, Education etc as well. This isn't the ONLY issue on the books at the moment, just one of them.
Like I said, it may not be the biggest issue, but it IS an issue
yup it was in there last time around as well

The problem is not with the hunters its the DOGS they are just mean. All dogs should be locked up and any one with a DOG should register it. If they can tear a fox apart what will happen if they get a CHILD. If we can only save 1 child this law will work!
I would say the probability of this is 100%.
