Democracy doesn't work

after what happened in sweden over the weekend, I now have grave reservations about the way we have chosen to interperite democracy. are the police there for the personal protection on the world leaders or to keep the peace? the answer is both however not wanting to appear weak they provoked violance amongst the protesters then shot three of them, atleast one in the back as he was running away.
The reforendum on the euro is in my opinion already fixed, and the question has not even been asked. (money for advertising depends on the number of seats a party has.)
more people did not vote than voted for labour, the question as to why must be asked and answered not presumed.
and most importantly freedom of speach is their as long as you say what you are told eg if I was to know where John venables was imprisoned how could I possibly say without getting my self locked up.
also I dont realy want a kilo of anything I know lbs + ozs yet I am being foced into buying 500gs = 1 lb what a load of bollox.

Please anwer this one piont at a time.

Asked and answered, I think.

If the referendum has been fixed then it has been fixed by dint of desensitizing the public to issues of national import and failing to provide adequate debate on the issue.
and most importantly freedom of speach is their as long as you say what you are told eg if I was to know where John venables was imprisoned how could I possibly say without getting my self locked up.

I refer you to your previous comment about whether the police exist to protect world leaders or keep the peace.

Actually, in most cases British people still use Imperial units regardless of the units by which things are priced. Come to think of it, I don't usually care about what mass I'm buying anyway: I just get, say, six apples, or :: holds hands a few inches apart :: this much cheese.

Okay this point is difficult. What system is better? Dictatorship perhaps? Or do you mean our system of voting - where those who abstain outnumber those who voted for the 'winners'? Would PR be any better, or would we end up with minority parties having too much power - which means that the extreemists (such as BNP) will end up with seats in the cabinet?

They are there to keep the peace and if that means that they protect the world leaders then so be it. But the real question is whether that is what they were actually doing. Or were they trying to stop a legitimate protest from interferring with the political 'elite'? Why werent the poseurs allowed to see the protest aimed at them - one UK politicians is quoted as saying "I didn't see any of it - we were miles away"

As you say the police also shot an unarmed protester in the back. Guess he was a real menace to the world leaders who were not even in the vicinity.

I disagree. Until people vote nothing is obvious. If it had already been fixed then the vote would have happened. The only reason the Govt haven't gone to the polls is because they KNOW they will lose at the moment.

When they expect to win - you'll get your chance. Now's the time to lie to the pollsters. When the polls show overwelming support for integration the Govt will give us the referendum.
more people did not vote than voted for labour, the question as to why must be asked and answered not presumed.

Think I've covered this. What we need is the 'none of the above' option and thus remove the "i didn't vote because I didn;t like any of them" excuse.
and most importantly freedom of speach is their as long as you say what you are told eg if I was to know where John venables was imprisoned how could I possibly

This is not about freedom of speech, but about endangering another person. THAT's why you would be locked up. What right do you have to put another person's life in danger - regardless of what you thnik they have done. Once they are released they have served their time - that is the law.

Freedom of speech is a bigger issue than that and I think you trivialise it.
also I dont realy want a kilo of anything I know lbs + ozs yet I am being foced into buying 500gs = 1 lb what a load of bollox.

Again, I don't think there is an issue here. You still get the same product in the same quantity. It's just pathetic posturing to be honest. The issue in europe is not what weights and measures you use but political integration and the loss of democracy which will follow.

Just look at the events of last week. The Irish voted against the Nice Treaty, but the european leaders will carry on regardless. They even have the arrogance to question if the voters understood the question!

And they wonder why people protest.

This is exactly what imperial measurements are based on, they are based on units that in previous years were easily recognisable throughout the world, if someone mentioned a Lb someone would think medium sized apple or rock, a foot is well, a foot, and a mile was a thousand paces. Over the years the exact measurements were recorded, but what we were left with was a system that was easy to use by anyone. The world is an exact diameter when it is recorded in miles, about 14,000 i think. When mearsured in Km it is something like 12,345.435666. The metric system is relatively new, Napoleon ordered his scientists to come up with a method of measuring distance that would rival the imperial measurments, which shows how stupid he really was. People will always carry on mentally using feet, inches and pounds regardless of what it says on the label because we have a natural tendency to think like this. I think we should force imperialism on Europe instead of them forcing metrication on us.

As for democracy not working, well it doesnt. It is capitalism, not democracy. We are at the mercy of big buisness. That is why when I get a job it will be in police or armed forces, because I know I will be serving the state and the people and not the corporations.

It's the Nautical Mile that exactly divides the equatorial circumference of the Earth.

There's a great story on the whole weights and measures thing which I read in a letter to The Times.

Some guy went to a shop to get x yards of bunting for some street parade. He asked the woman behind the counter for x yards of bunting, to which she replied that, in accordance with the law, the shop only sold bunting by the metre. He said, 'Fine, I'll have x metres of bunting, then.' She then proceeded to measure the bunting out against her arm.

this post was not about wieghts measurments or how we choose to vote. but what i wanted answered was how to tell people where the murderers are. not for retribution, but for the saftey of those around them. They have not behaved themselves in secure housing( note no prison) they have made no attempt to apologise to to either parent.
The parol board has not asked the three qustions we as a socitey need to be asured of but have made their judgment on time served.
that is unjust.
further more with no criminal convictions they could work with children or old people. also disapear from the authority tunnle vision.
if someone steals bread an employer has the right to know before a job is offered.
with annonomity this cant happen.
this will also set the bench mark for other cases.

and if u know, imagine how easy it is for other people, people that are more inclined to seek revenge, to find out?

i can see why one of the mothers of the kids thinks they'll be dead within one month of their identies being released. or summin.

Look into these tired eyes. See something you might recognise.

Those three questions being...?

And, incidentally, how do you know your questions weren't asked. Do you have access to the minutes of the parole board's meeting?

Is it safe to release?
Do they show remorse?
has long enough been served?

as to if I have access to the parole boards minutes of course not.
however I do know what they have been up to in secure housing.

via your psychic powers no doubt sy.

i didnt try and find out where they were either. actually i know where one of the families has been placed, not where the boys are. someone just posted on a livejournal that they knew through some links and connections where it was.

theyre under constant police guard now though, and are on a lfie license like most murderers who have come out of prison, the minute they do something a little bit dodgy, even if they dont break the law, but something that might endanger people, they're back inside. but i think its a bit off that future employers arent gonna know. i mean people have to declare their criminal records dont they, why is it fair for them to get away with not declaring this horrific murder? mind you they wouldnt get a job if they did.

somethingn scary, they're the same ages as me. i could end up going out with one of them. and not know it. or one of my friends could, if they went to live in the north, and a few are, for uni. just gonna have to keep away from all people with northern accents from now on who are the same age as me and male

Do you honestly think that the parole board wouldn't have taken those questions into consideration, you twat. Do you think that they thought they would release a couple of people into the outside world if they thought they were a danger to the general public?

As for KNOWING what these boys have been up to in secure housing, I can only assume that you were in there with them. Bearing in mind that they are at separate units, that might prove difficult though.

Of course this could be based on stories you have heard and they would need to be taken with a pinch of salt, especially if they have been in the press.

The whole problem with this case is that people will try to make these boys appear even more monstorous than they really were. Sickos get some kind of kick from pretending to have some inside info on them and how bad they really are. A friend of a friend is not exactly a good basis for information gathering, have you never played chinese whispers?

yes i do realise that it might not be accurate for this reason. this person just said that one of her mum's friends's husbands (yes i know) was a rent collector in this place. "and he was having trouble with one family cos the names on the books, files and credit stuff didn’t match up. I don’ t know the ins and outs of this bit but when he went to check it out, it turns out it’s because they’re a family who’ve been relocated by the police, in this case it’s one of the familys of either Robert Thompson or John Venables. "

so yeah, thats where i heard it. not saying im taking this as gospel or anything, she just posted it but friends only coz its something kinda freaky.

Relax GFM, the comment wasn't aimed at you. But I would say that hundereds of families get transferred through witness protection and I would expect that the police would be a little more careful than this with the Bulger Killers...not sure a debt collector would have access to such sensitive imformation.

its okay, thought it mightve been but that i would explain anyway even if it wasnt

yeah i was a bit dubious whether a debt collector would know, especially since there's been a high court injunction against this sort of info being released to people. could be held in contempt of court and everything and fined a sum of money that has no max limit on it, and max of 2 years in jail. this is all according to the mail btw and apparently the manchester evening news has info in it, or that CCTV pic or something and they were looking into whether the paper was in contempt of court.

but i did read all of this at 4am whilst drunk, so take it all with a pinch of salt and it IS the daily mail!
