everyone is entitled to free speech, what some people decide to do with it is up to them. If they get the shite kicked out of them then they only have themselves to blame.

my ex lives in oldham, i know it really well, and i've been to places that have been petrol bombed....scary!

i think it's disgusting to be honest that these people are allowed their freedom of speech. has anyone read the adrian mole book with that candidate in who wants to send everyone that isn't 100% anglo-saxon back to where they came from, and adrian's mother worked out that that policy would leave the candidate as the only person left in britain.

I'm not sure on this one.

I don't think people with such obvious lack of respect for others should be allowed to walk, nevermind walk the streets in some sort of parade.

However, I also realise that this view shows lack of respect to people who would go on the march in the first place.

I'm a reasonable man - get off my case.

I'm not sure what worries me more,

the fact that you think that the right of free speech shouldn't apply to anyone you disagree with

or, that you quote 'adrian mole' to support your argument.

To quote Thomas Szasz, a grown-up is someone who realises that "he not only has a right to be right, but also a right to be wrong."

If people hate, let them hate. Ultimately it will destroy them unless they can channel it into something productive (the young man who hates disease and suffering and so becomes a doctor).

If those hateful people want to disseminate their hatred, let them try. The sensible will not be swayed.

But for pity's sake don't try to force your view of 'right' on someone else. There's a good chance you're wrong, and even if you're right, there is nothing more dangerous than a good idea put in the minds of unready people.

Of course, I might be wrong... <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

sorry, was a bit drunk when i made that post. i didn't put my views in an incredibly clear fashion....

i do think people should be allowed freedom of speech, it just disgusts me how people abuse this freedom to stir up hatred.

and adrian mole is a witty parody on life and politics <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/tongue.gif">

The thing that puzzles me is figuring out who's the worst.

The guys who hold fascistic opinions?

The guys who kick the shit outta the guys with fascistic opinions?

I know that these guys are prejudiced, but so are the guys who hate the BNP.

So with one hand on the wheel
The other out the window
With a smile on my face
My middle finger up...

Grrr, bloody BNP.

As it happens I was stopped by a group of Asian guys as I was walking through town yesterday, they wanted to know "where the BNP headquaters is 'cos we're up for a fight yeah??" as near as I can remember. Words failed me, firstly 'cos I didn't know where it was anyway, secondly because of the supreme irony of them asking for the BNP HQ and thirdly 'cos they actually looked serious.

If there was a BNP march through here I would be tempted to dust off my recipe for Molotov cocktails, racism is one of the very few things that winds me up. Isn't that sinking to their level though?? Well yes, but it's the language they understand.

I think this is a problem that will fade with time though, as generations pass I think there is less and less racism as society becomes more mixed. The BNP are ideological dinosaurs with the political savvy of my arse, it's not as if they carry a persuasive political argument that can recruit from the younger generation. And is it me or are all those skinheads and denim a tiny bit...... camp??

I think that regardless of what the majority of the country think about the BNP and there policies i think that they should be able to express them in the same ways that any other group can. If one minority group, such as the BNP has its freedom of speech and movement restricted, then it is only fair to restrict the freedom of speech and movement of all the other minority groups who have views that the majority of the population dissagree with.
The BNP obviously have supporters who share there opinion, if they didn't then they wouldn't exist. Because they have supporters, there supporters should be represented and have their opinions respected by others. If anybody disagrees with their opinions then they should oppose them like they the opinions of any other organisation.

I'm not familiar with the BNP, but it sounds like you have the same problem we do with the hate groups over here. The Klu Klutz Klan and Black Pansies like to go out and march to show how cool they are and try to spread their message of hate and ignorance and we have to deal with it because it is their right. Its one of those double edged swords. You would like to limit their idiotic rehtoric, but if you were able to someone that disagreed with you could do the same to YOU. It sucks for sure.

I've always thought that peoples rights should stop as soon as they start infringing upon the rights of others.

While I think the BNP has the right to stage any marches it wants, I think that it should be stopped from marching in an asian housing estate for example.

Judging from the recent election results for the BNP, there are people out there that support them and we cant stop them appealing to those people just because we dont like it.

We cant pick and choose which people we give freedom of speech to.
