after being asked by a nurse if i was 'sexually active' i started thinking...

    just having sex regularly-ish.

depends on the context she asked it i think I would have asked her to clarify if you werent sure. if it was for a cervical smear, she may have been asking if you had ever had sex. If it was for contraception, she may have meant are you having sex from one month to the next.

I thinks its when you have had sex for the first time, from then on, your classed as sexually active. Its used in america alot. I find it a rather weird, and clinical phrase.

wouldnt count probably from a medical perspective, but obviously from a social persepective, having oral sex is sexually active.

I'd say you're sexually active when you start getting up to sexual activities. Though obviously you don't need to go into detail about every heavy petting session you have.

If you're being asked by a nurse under "medical" circumstances then it's helpful to disclose as much as possible (not graphically, obviously); whether you would consider yourself to have an active sex life or not. It actually is for the good of your health. ;)

i wouldn't count that as proper sex, even though you could call it oral sex.

by sexually active i'd take it that someone meant having intercourse.

    and i agree with walkindude.

A girl walks into a hospital complaining of abdominal pains. The doc runs through a few basic questions, "Oh and are you sexually active?"

    "Nope."

So the doc starts running through some tests ...

Some hours later the doc is back and not impressed. "Your pregnant!"

"Ah," sighs the girl, "I thought that might be it."

Struggling to keep a reign on his temper the doc asks "then why did you tell me you weren't sexually active?!?!"

"I'm not I just lie there"

like has been said, sexually active refers to being involved in any kind of sexual activity. you can still catch stuff if you're just having oral sex so if a dr or nurse asks if your sexually active don't be so silly to say you're not having sex.

why would it have sex in it's name if oral sex wasn't a type of sex?
