I was quite proud of myself the other day. I transferred £300 to my ISA. I've decided to keep my main bank account balance to under £200 all the time, mainly because I need to save £3000 for a camcorder. £200 is plenty enough to pay any direct debits so I won't be hit with any fines, but if there's money in my account, I'm always tempted to buy a CD or some expensive food when I'm in town. This way, always have to check that I have money before I buy anything so I've stopped buying crap. Two bank accounts (one without a cash card) is the way to go.

Well I do actually save and have a few thousand in my bank account. I have the money par se to buy it, I just feel a bit bad for doing so :(

Budget! Plan all of your outgoings and savings and then whatever you have left, spend. It is simple once you start.

Ask yourself how much of that stuff you really need. Or even how much spare time you would have to use it if you bought it. Three full PS2 games? Why not buy one now, then by the time you've finished it, you can get the others for cheaper or second hand? Watch all the DVD's you own before you buy more (I'm especially guilty of that one). You're bound to find someone with the Harry Potter films if you want to borrow them. And our uni had loads of DVD's that you could borrow from the library for free.

Your phone - does it call and text people? Then it's fine for now. Clothes - well that can't be helped, but just go to somewhere like Burtons or Next in the sale and you'll get things for cheap. You're at uni. Noone cares how you dress.

Like I said, put your money somewhere you can't get at it, and you won't bother with those impulse buys you don't need. If it's not important enough for you to go into the bank and get the money out in advance, then you don't need it.

Aye, I do have less time now I am working. I am either working, watching tv or on the net.

I can get a £5 off any of those games at HMV with a card. Still its £25 though. I was playing Fantastic four but it buggered up and won't work now.

I do still have 2 dvds I haven't watched yet. The Grudge and Star Wras 3, plus I never got round to watchign all my ANgel s4 dvds coz it came on tv. And I wanna watch Cerlks an dJ&SBSB again.

But I did say to myself I'd get Sin City when it came on sale. 9 songs looks interesting. Star Wars orginal Trilogy cheap, Buffy season 2 cheap. Training day £2.99! Clone Wars dvd's in sale now, and I only ever saw a couple of episodes of that.

Money is in my bank account, I can't bae arsed with differen kinds and such.

My mate has the harry potter dvds but he will never lend me them.

I am just indecisve now. I mean th emoney is there but I feel bad for spending it and then things all come together at same time and such.

nice clothes and mother's day is fair enough, but it sounds like you want a lot of crap that a) you don't need, or b) you could obtain for free with a bit of ingenuity......you have broadband no? use your head.

It's not. Did you not read the reviews?

As you'll only want it for the filth, you can get better porn on TheHun.

But you don't need any of those things.

You spend within your budget. No money = no fun. I'm waiting to get paid and, guess what, I'm not going down the pub till I do.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
No, I think I said before I don't have broadband and besides, you know that is illegal.

anyway, I read and heard 9 songs was a good film. Its only £6.99 in the sale, I wouldnt have bough it full price. Still, it is interesting, real sex in a mainstream film. Be interesting to see how they do it. Plus its a love story, I am a sucker for those.

I have money coming in, I have bit f JSA form before I singed off, 2 weeks of temp money, and next week I shuld get paid for the wokr I have done this month at this new job.

I just have a guilt complex of buying things.

Kermit - You have a loving wife to go home to. You don't need to go to the pub, whether you have been paid or not.

its is crap though I guess.

    But it passes the time.

Probably the same way they do it in porn. :D I've heard that this is the only redeeming feature of the film though. There's some great films out there that explore sex. Young Adam with Ewan McGregor is supposed to be very good (£5.99). Breaking the Waves by Lars von Trier. A Short Film About Love by Kryzstzof Kieslowski. Crash by David Cronenberg. Not that I'm trying to fuel your spending habits of course. ;)

    Hi ya,
Have a look at thesite's article on managing a budget if you haven't already. Splashing out on what may seem like even the smallest of treats can add up to a lot of cash if you don't keep an eye on your spending.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    lol!!

Well the sex does intrigue me. Makes me wonder if it is true if sex will be in mainstream filsm more as the porn industry claims, though with no ude clauses then maybe not.

yeah that young adam is suppsed to be strong but it looks like a miserable film. Don't know much about the others.

I do like th elove story though and 9 songs is supposed to have that.

I saw a bit of Crash. I didn't seem too explicit and was quite strange!

Well there's not many instances in a story which requires you to see every little bit of the action. For example, do you actually need to show the shit coming out of someone's arse for the audience to know that they're taking a dump. Unless it's absolutely necessary for the story or for the full impact of it, actors aren't gonna be willing to do it. In 9 Songs, it just seems to have been for marketing purposes that they've done it, rather than to help the story, but then I haven't seen it.

As for Crash, no it's not that explicit really. It's more violent though. It's about a group of people that get off on car crashes essentially. Kinda wierd idea for a film.

God, we're gonna get the topic moved again.

when you don't have much disposable income you have to prioritise where you spend your money. eating and paying rent for example, is more important and a necessity when compared to buying cds for instance. of course we all like to buy things, but maybe limit your spending and if you really want/need something then perhaps save up for it.

ha, wish i took this attitude myself!! :p

You could make a tin, seal it, write a date of say, 3 months in the future on it, and every day, put what you can in it, a pound, two pounds, fifty pence and so on, then open it in three months and you'll be amazed what there is. :thumb:
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    lol!!!!!

Aye, I don't know tho. I have a massive tin of pennies that I haven't even bothered to take to the bank!

Yup bluewisedom, I am right, and even kermit knows it ;)

yeah luc, I just feel bad about buying stuff sometimes, specially then there is soo much of it lol.

Yeah I'm with, I agree. Though I have heard plenty of directors talk on the subject, justify a cumsho in a mainstream film so who knows and itf its picked up as a marketing tool, maybe the actresses and actors will have to do it.

It's not illegal, and its better quality than 9 songs. As the Independent put it, it's a poor film, and a worse porno film. The actress apparently has "lovely labia" though.
I just have a guilt complex of buying things.

It's important to treat yourself when you're working, otherwise there's no motivastion to go.

But if you're spending every penny you're not going to save.
